Really Angry :@

What if you get a new mobo and cannot fresh reinstall your OS?

My mobo has fried and I have ordered new stuff but have no way of backing up my hard drives?

Can I not just plug it all in and turn it on?

You can use a linux boot disc, or install to another drive/parition, or get a new small hard disk, buy an external SATA usb caddy for the internal HDDs to backup to another machine if you have one...lots of options.

So are you guys quite certain that the problem is due to me not doing a fresh install of an OS... because a lot of the problems similar I read up on had their loop a lot earlyier in the startup than the Starting Windows animation. I hope to god that this will fix the problem... I just got the task of finding an OS disk, as I have just searched my house and have not had any luck... But just need some confirmation that you guys are pretty sure this is the cause...

I wouldn't say quite certain... just that not reinstalling an OS when changing motherboard is known to result in non-booting windows so its quite likely to be the problem... or it could be a hardware issue but until you have a clean OS install we won't know.

Most of my stuff, bar the OS, is on a seperate drive so I could fresh install onto the OS drive 'C' and when it is up and running, just plug in the other 'D' drive?

There area probably a few bits that have sneaked on there but I will try and get a caddy and have a look on someone elses PC. Cheers :)

i had this problem with my mobo it wouldnt boot into windows with my current ram untill i updated the bios.

Like people have said, you're best off with a fresh install. Just out of curiosity what mainboard did you have in before?

Also have you checked to see in the BIOS that the disks aren't set to RAID or AHCI? If you have the option to set it to IDE mode then you could give that a shot.

Update:

This morning i turned it on just out of curiosity to see if anything has changed and it came up with a different type of system repair menu, and i ended up reformatting the hard disk and reinstalling factory setting on it...

So it shut down, booted up got as far as it normally would, but instead of the windows 7 animation stopping half way... i got a nice BSOD instead... it will shut down and loop like this from now on...

My old Motherboard was a - Gigabyte S Series GA-G31MF-S2

Now should i just leave it until i can get hold of a OS Disk and do a fresh install of an OS to see if that works, or has this BSOD insidint putting the blame on something different?

Also in the BIOS my HDD is set to IDE :)

Update:

I have just rung up a computing shop near me and they think it is the same problem that all of you guys are saying... the frsh OS install...

I just hope this BSOD loop isnt going to mess things up when i do finally get round to doing a fresh install...

If you've used a disk given to you buy a reseller to restore it factory settings then you're going to have problems. The disks are designed to re-install the OS with the drivers and settings for whatever spec/configuration they were created for. Some in fact blue screen anyway (my Acer disk will not work unless I stop the recovery by switching the laptop off at 99%, if it's gets to 100% and restarts Windows blue screens...)

As said previously, clean install all the way.

Right, I'll add my vote and make that a count of roughly 21 for OS Reinstall.
You've replaced the most integral part of your PC, the one that Windows links to it's OEM products, the one that links ALL of your other components and you are not sure about reinstalling the OS ? All you need is for the OS to have one driver that doesn't quite understand what the new motherboard is trying to tell it and your system will BSOD.
And once you have reinstalled what I assume will be a legal OS and all is well, maybe your title should read " Really Angry at myself ! "

thanks for your input, but theres not need to be like this about it... I know i need to install an OS but atm i do not have disk to install one...

But thanks guys... I will update when i have done a fresh install...

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude, up to your post about a computer shop telling you an OS reinstall should fix it you didn't seem confident about the OS reinstall thing and I was merely trying to explain why.

the BSOD is what i've always got when i havent re-installed windows after a mobo change, ALWAYS, never that freezing problem. but then that was with win xp and vista. dont know what that stalling was, but actually getting to the bsod screen is actually good news for you :-) one step forward

Hi m8, yes its annoying when things dont go well if you have a faulty part or the OS fails due to a driver etc. If your not sure about the OS your installing or a new part etc ask here or google it, there's good advice to be had here on the forum and on the net. Just a tip print it off so you can keep yourself right as you go along installing a new OS say Win 7 or a part l do(down load latest drivers for mobo, graphics card etc, burn them to disc so you have them handy if you can) Keep us up to date, you'll get it sorted in the end. ;)

OOPS IMAO double post been out for a few beers with my two sons, as its my youngest birthday 22 today.

Dons please delete.

All the best everyone, have agreat new year.
