I was just out and about doing a few odd tasks ready for Xmas and got rear ended by White Van.

I was giving way to a car and a few seconds later I got nailed from behind.

Here is a pic of the damage:

At the time I was very shaken up but counted to 3 and thought what I have read on here so got out the car and walked up to the bloke.

He said "WTF you stopping for on a busy road"

I just said I was giving way to a car and you hit me from behind.

A guy stopped as a witness who I am very grateful of.

I called my Dad but got no answer so called the police, gave details etc... and then asked what to do.

So I took the witnesses and white van man's details, the white van man said he doesnt know his insurance company so I will phone him later to find that out.

My neck and back are very uncomfortable so going to get that checked out now.

Could you please advise what to do?

I havn't contacted any insurers as of yet.

Thanks,

Chris

Ouch mate glad your ok,

You need to phone your insurance company ASAP and tell them you have been in a crash, you don't have to explain everything straight away just inform them, brief details, they will probably send you out a form to fill in with further details and a picture (Mine did anyways).

They may phone you back later talking about places to fix your car or get it looked at for cost of repair.

Also give the insurance company the details of the van driver, you got legal cover with your policy cause that van driver sounds like a right tool!

I am worried that I will need to pay an excess, I always though I wouldn't need to if it wasn't my fault, also do i lose NCB?

I am assuming the insurers will see it as his fault, I have that kind witness too.

My doctor said to go to hospital for an xray, it's aching a fair bit already :(

The side panel has all crumpled, the bar across the back is twisted and buckled, the boot is a little buckled and will not open, the light has gone, paint work is all crap. Do you really think they will repair it? Suspension is knocking.

Rear enders are usually easy to sort out since the person who hit you from behind is usually to blame.

You can claim the excess back off his policy since its his fault, not sure about the no claims situation since i had non when i crashed so i had non to loose.

Getting to the doctors now will help with any claims you make due to back problems etc.

Looks like a total loss to me :(

Go to the Hospital, they'll check you out.

Then later on you can get compensation, plus that guy sounds like an arse so why not?

hope this white van man will have insurance. as long as you broke safely and your witness backs you up you'll win and wont lose your ncb. worst case is that is 50:50 - he proves you broke harshly and without just cause, going too fast and road conditions were very bad (this will be very unlikely as it still points to him driving too close and not paying attention).

Unlucky bud.

you did the right thing getting it sorted as much as possible before leaving the scene.

I dont think that will be repaired, the car isnt worth that much and it seems to have a substatial amount of damage, have you checked your ICE in the boot is still ok?

you shouldnt lose your NCB, but will have a fault to declare on your next policy which may bump up the premium.

My Electric Current Red, 1997 P Reg Mondeo was rear ended in a similar way 18 months ago, with similar damage :(.

There was no question of it being a writeoff. The car just isn't worth enough. What you might be able to do though is pocket the payout, purchase the salvage and bodge the repair ;).

Bad luck :(.

Sounds like it could be a write-off :(

It did look a very nice car, too, especially with all the work you've done to it :( Bet you're pleased you hadn't fitted RSAP to it yet! ;)

Contact insurance company right now, give them the details you got from the van driver (I hope you took down his registration plate, too) so they have them on record should you not be able to contact the driver (which could be likely :()

I would also get to the doctor/hospital and get checked out, so that it is on record that you went there with pains after the accident should it cause havoc to you in the future.

:(

Hi mate,

Dont worry you will not loose your NCB. He hit you from behind, his fault. Plus you have a witness...

Report the accident to your insurence company, and get the van drivers insurence company as soon as you can , ring them and explain that you have suffered whiplash etc..

Direct Line tried this chesnut on me, you need to pay the excess after some idiot in a van rear ended me while stationary at traffic lights (£500, err dont think so). It was a clear cut case, he has hit you in the rear, you could be stopped/slowing for a number of reasons case being "you should leave a bit enough gap, period". Tell insurance company that you wont be paying the excess, as he has hit you, witnesses to state defo not your fault, and they should then pay out and claim it all back from the numpty that hit you.

Hope you get it sorted soon, mine dragged on for 6 months, as long as you have legal cover not your problem for them to sort out, you pay £x insurance a year, for them to do their job now :D

Just phoned insurers.

They chap was really helpful.

I have legal cover so have a number to call all about claiming from his insurance.

I am going to A&E now, the chap on the phone advised it and said to call back after I have been checked out.

I have had to ring my customers and cancel my appointments - Not good as money would be handy this time of year :(

I had stopped for 2-3seconds before the van hit me, and he never hit me square on as you can see from the pictures.

I will call the witness later, I think it would be a nice gesture to buy him something as a thanks, what do you suggest.

So is it a write off job?

Oh, I have £500 ICE cover on the car, the amp looks ok but I can't get to the sub as it's stuck in the boot, definately been chucked about though as I folded down the small seat and the sub is on the other side of the boot.

You have no issue then, you had stopped before he hit you so he can't claim he slammed on the brakes.

Get to A&E get checked out get a coppy of the report if possible, i don't know if they hand these out if asked?

Note down all time off work and missed work things could be added to the claim, oh and get a hire car sorted on his expense :)

So is it a write off job?

I would say yes, my dads primera got rear ended and that damaged the boot floor, just that cost 1k to put right :(

Looks like a write off to me :(

Main thing is to worry about yourself, let the insurance companies fight it out, thats why we pay them stupid amounts of money each year.

Its a nice thought getting the witness a little something but i'd leave it until after the claim has gone through.

Jesus, that's nasty :(

Hope you can get it sorted out without too much fuss, but I'm almost certain it's going to be a write-off.

If you do get it repaired, no doubt they'll have to get a jig on the car and pull the body back. I wouldn't trust it after that.

Sorry to hear it Tesla. It looked like a lovely car :(

Gutted for you Tesla. But its almost definately a write off. I guess the brightside is; new car time. Shame it happened so close to xmas though :(

Hope you are ok, Looks like a write off to me! Deff get yourseld down to the hospital ASAP, so it's on your records if you put a claim in later, hope you get it sorted.
