Rear Ended

Never accept the insurers offer they first give you unless you have under insured your motor.

they always give you the lowest value they can therefore surely it would work in your favour if you over estimated your car's worth...

You could say your car was worth 20k, they wont pay out for it. :p

Yeah someone made it before the thread closed.

I for some reason decided to use it.

Pants. And there I was ignoring that thread after it seemed he was telling the truth.

Bad luck on the rear-ender Tesla. 18 months ago, my inlaws Honda Civic was rear ended by a white van man, and sent their car into the car infront. Every panel had to be replaced on it, and the state it was in was quite incredible really!

Anyway, good luck with the claim. I hope it all works in your favour (it sounds as though it should). ;)

Threads like this scare me.

If i'm being tailgated in the weather as it is now i often slow down to about 10mph until the person behind backs off or overtakes me.

Cant really afford to get shunted tbh.

Are insurers supposed to give out the average market value for your car or do they have to give out enough for a replacment in the same condition?

Tesla, its a shame that the insurers will only see this as a mondeo. I can recall the time and effort that you put into finding a good example, the time you put into touching it up and how proud you were of it.

any thoughts on what will replace it if it is written off?

He's going to replace it with another Mondeo or a BMW 5 Series.

He's clearly been talking to me on MSN too much :/

 tbh I'd have thought you'd recommend a Corsa ;)

My old man only got £750 for his R plate Mondy TD due to its uber mileage :(

I think he has harnessed brain washing via Msn.

My mileage is 93K. I hit the 6month of ownership a few days ago and 5K miles this morning, bloody typical!

I hope the company Fox recommended (www.helphire.co.uk) can get a hire car to me tomorrow. What's the deal with insurance on a hire car?

I used helphire about 6 months ago and they charged a one off £40. I think there was a daily rate too that you could choose.

Anyway 6 months have passed and they still haven't asked for the £40.

One thing to mention about Helphire... I used them ~18 months ago when my Mondeo was written off. It was all great at the time but I got a letter recently telling me I am contractually obligated to attend a court hearing to enable them to recover their costs (totalling £4000) from the 3rd party. There was no mention of where the hearing will be held - it could be in Scotland for all I know!

They are based in Bath so I imagine it's around there.

Sounds like they have had issues with the third parties insurer Adz, I doubt thats a regular thing :)

It was a very unusual case, I just thought I'd warn Chris that it is actually stated in the small print that you will have to attent a court hearing if required.

As you lot are so sure that it's a write off, to be honest I'm not sure if I would be confident driving it again as I think it would need a rejig and the suspension is knocking on that corner now. Also the rear passenger door is jamming and when you open it the handle stays up and you have to push it down before closing the door.

Current things I am considering replacing it with:

Thoughts on the above. Insurance could be an issue on the 520i, the Mk3 GhiaX is actually a group lower than my current car. I could get the Mk3 Ghia X in diesel or estate variety too.
