Reasonable distance to travel to work?

Current job is about 6 miles, takes about 20 minutes on the bike as I pass a load of traffic and schools. I'm starting a job mid December which is about 20 miles away, which will probably take 30-40 minutes each way, more at 'peak' times.

Both would take a fair bit longer by car.

For me it is more about how long it takes than how far it is.

I feel the same way. Have given up all hope on public transport in London as at the moment, it's a 4 mile trip to hospital but on public transport I'll have to leave 1 hour and even that doesn't mean I'll make it on time.
Don't know why I have put up with it for so long but I've been known to travel 1 hour 40 mins to get to work. Anything under an hour I consider close

I travel about 120 miles round trip although its on a commuter coach service into London.
One of our cable contractors commutes from somewhere near Bath into central London most days of the week. There is no way I would do that, he spends around 6-7 hours travelling.

Howdy Guys,

Just out of interest, how far do each of you travel to work each day? my current job requires me to travel 15m there and back, but im also considering taking up a position thats about 25m away... just waiting to hear back from them on how much they pay..

LOL thats not too bad. I travel 60 miles each way daily + an extra 40 when I go up to our london office.

Driving it takes between 1:10 and 2hrs. On the train it is about 1:15 on a normal day.

Having done over 35miles each way daily for the last few years you don't even notice it. It can take the same time as it does for my wife to go 10 miles across town.

Luckily for me it is 99% motorway which helps.

I don't think its the distance - its the time and quality of journey.

I have driven 50 mins each way across Birmingham in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic and it was a nightmare.

I have comuted daily by train between Birmingham and London and it was tedious but comfortable.

I have driven between Corby and Birmingham daily, 65 miles each way and about an hour and 10 mins each way and it was a bit long and OK.

I find that if the journey is too SHORT I don't get time to "change my heads" between work and home.

For me a commute each way of 1 hour max of not too stressful travelling is the target. Important to factor in the travelling costs too.

Not sure how many miles it is exactly...

But I commute from Hertfordshire to Central London via train then the tube. It takes about an hour to get into the office in total.

As much as I love driving, I'm actually kind of glad I don't commute anywhere via car, as when you are sat on the train you just see miles and miles of traffic jams.

28miles each way. Take about 40mins int he morning and an hour in the evening.

I don't mind it, I really love my music so it's a great time for me to just listen to it. Coming home is a tad irritating as the M62 from the M6 > M602 is just horrible. It's only 8miles but takes about 15-20mins.

95 miles round trip each day on some of the norths best B roads! great on the bike and still pretty fun in the car. Last job was only about 3 mile round trip each day.
