Still, these guys were just normal guys before the civil war. They went up against the trained soldiers of a brutal regime. They should be applauded for that - I'm not so sure I'd have the guts to do the same if I were in their situation.

Well they did have the combined air forces of multiple NATO countries flying ahead of them destroying pretty much all resistance, its not like they would have had a hope of doing any of this by themselves.

But yeah well done to them, lets just hope Libya turns out better this time, lets not forget the evil oppressor Gadaffi was once the leader of the Libyan rebels, when he lead the then rbeels in a coup to overthrow the puppet dictator left in charge by Britain after it gave Libya independence he was cheered as a hero and applauded in Washington. Like they say in batman you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain, guess its true in politics too...

I hope they ensure that all the weapons stockpiles are secure this time.. Unlike when Iraq was 'Freed' and everyone had free reign to help themselves to whatever they pleased...

Most of the stockpiled weapons have disappeared, and with the amount of 'allah akbar' shouting going on, expect to see some fun and games over the next few months.

the majority were just normal citizens...

You could make that argument for most of Africa's armed forces though. They tend to be tiny number of "elite" units which are bulked up massively by units consisting mostly of conscripts.

Also, you are underplaying the role that ex-Libyan army units played in the war. They kept all of the NTC armour going, the heavy weapons operational and probably contributed to planning operations too. On top of this Libyan units defecting severely weakened Gaddafis hold on power early on,meant it gave the uprising more impetus and meant the NTC had access to heavier weapons from the beginning.

uhh why is a picture of his dead, bloodied body/corpse on the news???????

is that the done thing nowadays? Lets see all the closeups of the dead? Did we see Bin ladens corpse? Saddams?

Disgusting.

Probably did it to stop the conspiracy idiots starting a rumour that hes not really dead

Not forgetting that for anything with a calibre greater than 7.62mm, shouting "Allah Ackbar" after firing it is mandatory ;)

Oh that made me chuckle, it is a lot easier to fight back when you have NATO bombing your enemies and UK various Special Forces helping you.

Any bets that the new 'president' will abuse his power just as much? The come into office with so much promises, but when it's time to go, hell breaks loose.

Not to mention the Royal Navy blockading ports and special forces of UK/US/France and other 'advisors' on the ground and the supply of arms/munitions/cash. The way these Libyan guys wasted munitions every time a camera was near was incredible.

We can only hope the country is more secure in the future than the last country the US\UK left.

The BBC was happy to show the dead battered and bloody corpse of Gaddafi, why are we not provilidged enough to see the bloodied corpses of UK soldiers returning from Afgansistan/Iraq?

One rule for some?

No country ever wants to let its people see Photos and Video footage of its own Soldiers, How on earth can you compare that to seeing Gaddafi on the Tv?

Indeed....quite sick tbh. But the world is fubared place... lets all pretend this is a great joyous day for Freedom and Justice and Democracy woot!

Which world leader will be the first on the plane over there with the HUGE cheesy grin and handshake....

Allah akbar!!

Because showing the body serves some purpose, it proves he is dead. There is no real need to prove that the servicemen coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq are dead.
