Rebrand Fail?

390x Thoughts?

£220 - 290x
£270 780ti
£360 980

390x is essentially a 290x with more ram, don't buy in to the that better cooling bs. it's the same card avoid.

Waiting for the furyx will be buying that.

Some benchmarks I saw showed it being a fair bit faster.

Not a worthwhile upgrade from a 290X, admittedly. Would probably have been a more successful rebrand marketed as a 280/X.

A little quicker than the 290X rebrand that I initially thought it was. Seems to trade blows with the GTX980, which isn't too bad.

Yeah but a mega flop from pricing end of things, 980 for the same price ? cooler quieter and draws less power... i know who has my money... if furyx is a flop i hope it isn't as i'll buy if it outshines the TX, but i can see AMD falling in to a hole and never climbing back out..

It is clocked slightly higher that is all, which is why it performs slightly better.
It is the same GCN1.1. Hawaii chip.

If you overlock the 290x you get the same performance.
Fi you trust AMD's 390X marketing then the *GB of ram is needed for 4K gaming. If you trust AMD's FuryX marketing then you don't need more than 4Gb.

A 290X is a baragin in comparison. Someoen on guru3d did a bios flash on their 290X with the 390X bios, so you can give yourself a free upgrade.

Well there are reviews about for it now and the 390x seems okay.

This forum is growing tedious though. Too many weirdos just taking every opportunity to scrutinise cards they either dont own, or have any intention of ever owning.

Not sure why you would give a crap about AMD cards when you currently own a 980. Its clear you arent going to buy a card from this range so why do you need to tell people?

i'm buying the furyx though. i'm just annoyed that AMD are low balling everyone considering their vice president was mocking nvidia for rebranding =\\

I just don't want your average consumer to get ripped off. A newbie would automatically associate higher numbers with an increase in performance.

It's OK because the 290X is OK lol! They should have released these cards months ago, and maybe then they would have stolen more sales from Nvidia. I don't know why they've released them now... I don't see an argument for it inflating the price of the Fury, as that's a standalone flagship that is crossing swords with the 980Ti/Titan X... so totally different market.

It's fine for most of us on these forums... we won't be suckered in... it's your average clueless PC World shopper that I feel sorry for, as they are literally being conned in my opinion.

I agree Re: 290X being a bargain. I picked up 2 for around £150 a pop around the time of the 970/980 release.

Should see me good through to Pascal / Arctic islands.
