Rebrand Fail?

390X is a pretty massive joke. 390 on the other hand? an 8GB 290 for £80 less and around the same price that the 4GB 290's were? Yes please.

So funny some people are essentially trying to defend a £220 being sold at £350. Beyond me. Fanboyism a-side.... Would you pay £140 extra for the same card? Neither would i.

No I dont think its a good thing.

However its happened numerous times in the graphics card market and its been discussed loads in the last month or so.

You are doing a good public duty though. Making sure no one falls for such traps.

I would tend to agree. A pair of 390s would represent a decent 4K setup on a budget, as long as you don't insist on playing the latest games as soon as they're released.

Looking at this review in most games the 390x is 10-15% faster than a 290x. They are both supposedly using the same drivers. Would a 55mhz core bump and 250 mhz memory bump on a 290x achieve enough gain to match the 390x. I think something else is going on here as the gains seem to big for the bump in clocks in most games.

The 390x matches up pretty well against a gtx980 while being cheaper. It comes with double the memory so it's not a bad effort. Amd should aim to bring the price down on these a little to maximise sales though.

Well there are reviews about for it now and the 390x seems okay.

This forum is growing tedious though. Too many weirdos just taking every opportunity to scrutinise cards they either dont own, or have any intention of ever owning.

Not sure why you would give a crap about AMD cards when you currently own a 980. Its clear you arent going to buy a card from this range so why do you need to tell people?

What is the point in theses threads then. Are they only for people to come in and say how wonderful everything is?

i'm buying the furyx though. i'm just annoyed that AMD are low balling everyone considering their vice president was mocking nvidia for rebranding =\\

I just don't want your average consumer to get ripped off. A newbie would automatically associate higher numbers with an increase in performance.

Its rather stupid that though when you think about it, as the Ti has less CUDAs etc..., so hes saying every card must be a rebrand, the 290 must be a 290X rebranded, the 970 must be a 980 rebranded, as they are the same cards too, with bits lopped off :D

There is nothing about this card that is rebrand, its a totally new card. Also just to be clear this could have been called the MSI 290X Gaming V2 and we would be saying the exact same thing. This is in no way shape or form a number change on the box. This card has been designed from the ground up to be amazing and it did just that.

From what I can see only the ASUS can be mistaken for a rebrand but it's unlikely. How could it be a rebrand if it has worse minimums in some games, did they release it with self sabotaging driver so it looks to perform differently?

This isn't my opinion so no one kill the messenger, but on beyond 3D thery are discussing this and there are 2 possibilities:
1) AMD have driver optimization only enabled for the 390X at this time, something which is known to have occurred in the past (review drivers).
2) The 290X review cards are getting limited by heat and are throttling earlier.

Since people are successful modding 290X to a 390X we should be able to see benchmarks of the 290X running 390X drivers.
