Rebrand Fail?

i was waiting for 3xx release for 4 long months, sice I sold my 670 SLI...for me it's a complete failure.

tomorrow, I'm buying new 290x for roughly 50% of what retailers want for 390X

this should serve well until 16/14nm arrives. plan on going from 1080 to 1440p in the following month or two too.

Gutted. Pretty much my thoughts.

BUT its not a straight rebrand. OK its the same GPU under the hood... but its cooler, its clocked higher and has more memory and it look to outperform the gtx 980...

OK no one with the GTX 980 would swap to it as the performace difference is neglagible but someone coming from a GTX 680 or 7950/7970 could be look at these cards.... so the 390X is still cheaper than the GTX980 and it outperforms it so yea people will buy that over the 980 unless of course Nvidia fan boi

Disclaimer : im not an AMD fan boi I buy whatever the best card is on the market at the time. Ive been waiting for the Fury X card simple to see if they compete with the 980ti / titan x

Then the 7970->7970GE was not a rebrand (they added boost!) and the 7970GE->R9 280x was not a rebrand (they upped the clocks!).

It's a rebrand.

I wouldn't even object if they had reviews out at release, they didn't try to boost the price for a different name, etc.

If it turns out there are R9 390x specific driver improvements (could be proven by someone bios modding an R9 290x 8gb and seeing a performance boost) then there is going to be hell to pay as that's obviously deliberate crippling of older cards - exactly what nVidia were accused of with Kepler.

This, i'm pretty much tired of people comparing this to a 980 when it should be compared to 290x
