Recettear!

Try running the config.exe file and set your keys to what you fancy. I think the default 'OK' button was 'Z' or something. I used a 360 pad myself, works great with it.

It uses zxcv, which is apparently the default control set for japanese RPGs like this, and thinking about it, it does make sense. I mean, obvious choices would be enter for ok, space to attack, things like that... but they wouldn't all be reachable with one hand. Once I knew what the controls were, they're pretty intuitive. First is ok, second is cancel, third is info, and 4th... I'm not sure :D

Played the demo for a fair few hours last night - quite enjoyed it, but couple of things irked me...

1) Customers always haggle (bloody old man) - ultimately you end up just charging them just under 130% just to get their custom, just to ensure you get your weekly total. The mechanics for this just seem far too simple...

2) Dungeon grind for me seems to get boring way too quickly. Hoping changing adventurers keeps this fresh...

3) Sometimes the conversations just go for ages - they are quirky but just seem to happen too often (guess its the start of the game though_

So not sure if Ill get it as I suspect it will get too grindy too quickly...

Different customers all have different price points. The old men are very frugal, I tend to offer around 126%. You get bonus merchant exp for selling a product without needing to haggle, and extra if you right away go to their top limit. Its not just the % either, it depends on the item cost. Old men and the little girl don't tend to have too much, so you can go for a higher % on something like the bread, but if they want a 1000pix item, you're looking at a very small profit if you do want to sell it to them. And adventurers buy equipment and then equip it, so you'll want to sell cheaply to them too.

2) Dungeon grind for me seems to get boring way too quickly...

The dungeons are optional, its possible to complete the demo without them. As for after, it'll be much harder. Getting through them gives you items to sell for massive profit, and the ingrediants for fusion get you even better items.

You can hit esc to get through most of those, it says if you can in the bottom right corner. Some of the tutorial bits you can't skip though.

Played the demo twice over the weekend, really like it (and it's nice to have a low-spec game to play on my gf's laptop when we are at her parents).

Pre-ordered!

First reviews are in and fairly high scores so far :).

"Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale is definitely a contender for my indie game of the year"
"For those looking for an exceptional simulation-RPG experience chock full of great humor and charm, Recettear may be that diamond in the rough that you've been searching for."

(Not actually heard of any of these sites though tbh)

Still umming and hhing on this - is it Mac compatible? From my previous points Ive just learnt to make things under 30% - its just quicker...

Each day for me is done the same now - 1 unit = shop; 2 units = dungeons (and other stuff in town); 1 = shop - rinse and repeat...

Nope, and there's not much that can be done as the EGS are unlikely to recode it for mac. I'm pretty sure most people are using WINE or whatever it is that mac users use for emulation.

You're missing out on prime retail time! Afternoon is when most people are out and about, late evening's are almost empty :p

Ahh I just do that so that I can shift some items so it makes room for whatever I get in the dungeons...

Most of the time I only get 3 approaches per shop unit

You'd probably be better adventuring first thing then selling the last two, though that's just my opinion :p

Lol, this game is strangely addictive. How much is it in pounds? Not that i have much time left to decide >< Considering it but it is fairly expensive for what it is, though i've spent more on less...
