Recettear!

Be glad - she only sells things and here starting price is 500% of base price...

She will always break your Just combo and many a time her starting off price equals all my money...

Im doing well at the moment - finding the game way too easy - day 28 (day before of 200k payment) and Ive nearly got 500k already - made 200k on this day alone :D...

EDIT: Just done the 4th week - left with nearly 400k and only got a 500k payment :D

Lol, yeah she just started turning up to my shop >< Damn she's annoying. Strangely enough 1 of her sales was actually at a base price of 70%, if i'd known she refuses everything if you lower the price to below 100% i'd of accepted it but it was something like her second sale, saying that i did just accidently buy something at 250% >< Whats annoying is she keeps trying to sell me treasures i haven't seen yet :(

Well if you're finding the game too easy atm then don't worry, theres Survival Mode and Survival Hell which are basically endless loan repayments every week and Hell is obviously the same just harder (i loaded it up and the first repayment is 20k) and Newgame + that seems really pointless :p You start with your merch rank intact and all the items from your previous game but no money... meaning i must have about 2mil worth of items to start with, i could probably make all repayments just by selling straight to the guild everything i have. Hell i just made a sale of 350k to the guild master for 3 stupidly expensive weapons on a price up day :D

I'm attempting to get as much of the encyclopedia done as possible but there really doesn't seem like theres any purpose to most of the fusion stuff. It doesn't matter what way you cut it, 1 of the easy fusion 3 items requires 30 Insect Traps, 10 Charred Lizards and 2 Perfume Staffs and the only way to get that many is to waste a hell of a lot of valuable items, go through dungeons multiple times and go through the early dungeon which doesn't have as good loot, so that by the end you've probably wasted more profit than you'd get by making the damn thing. Even with the 2 increased item storages for dungeons (lvl17 and 24) bringing you to 30 its not enough.

I'm wondering if i can get anything more now i've finished and in Endless mode. I'm stuck at 5 adventurers now, haven't seen anything of that Elan guy since the Orphanage 'event'.

And theres something very funny about the guy saying 'my wife told me to pick this up' and the item being a Sailors Suit

Think my store looks dark and mysterious enough yet? :D I'm just not sure if its scaring away customers or not...

Think thats the only real point of Fusion items to get 100% completion - I dont think theres any other way to get those items - Ive only just unlocked Fusion 2 and agree that just the time spent to get the quantities is ridiculous.

Thats interesting as Im only on four adventurers but Ive got Elan - so there does seem some variation - though I assume theres 6 in total (Swords, Daggers, Staves, Bows, Spears and Gloves). I know the intro movie shows a Bow girl (assumed its the robot girl?!?) - so I guess Im still to discover the Spear person...

Ahh youve got the Heretic stuff - noticed anything on the type of shoppers you get? Again seems only useful for 100% completion

The mad thing is that Ive not even attempted any of the dungeons except the first one - only was going there to fulfill orders or get cheap fusion stuff I cant get anywhere and knew the first dungeon had the stuff I needed (slime fuild/livers, chestnuts, charred lizards, bat wings etc). So still got all to try aswell as ranking up my adventurers...

I'd have to agree. I had a quick look for a spreadsheet and the recettear wiki has an incomplete 1 (with at least 1 error in item produced) but its pretty easy to see that barely any are worth the effort. Most need obscene amounts of common or rare items, offer a negative profit (though that assumes you could sell the ingredients, which is possible as Calliou seems to like em but not worth the hastle) or simply need things from the deeper dungeons. 1 of the decent ones i created from lvl2 which isn't too bad but i think the ingredients are from the 3rd dungeon only (Pure Edge + 3 Earth Crystals) making a better dagger than the best available from the guild master,

I have the Archer, Spear, Dagger, Sword and Staff. Archer, which is blatantly obvious when you get there, is the 'boss' of the 2nd dungeon. Spear you'll know when you see her, you get a load of random encounters with her in dungeons before she eventually turns up. Elan has finally made a couple of appearances in my shop though i have no idea what changed and i assume he's the Gloves guy. The Claw guy, you can see a mile away the instant you get all the work up to the 3rd dungeon, and he's started coming to my shop, though i'm wondering if i need to be exceptionally Dark so he'll give me his card (with Light applying to Elan). If so i guess that makes the 'robot' the 'Parts' guy or whatever the hell that other mystery weapon set is. I think theres some sort of pre-requisite you need to meet or do for people once you have access. I'm sure i saw something about selling enough candy to 1 of them before they gave you there card which makes sense as 1 of the people is in the market obsessively eating sweet things (the archer).

Ahh youve got the Heretic stuff - noticed anything on the type of shoppers you get? Again seems only useful for 100% completion

Honestly, i dunno if it was coincidence but i'm pretty sure i was getting maybe half of my regular customers when i had full Heretic stuff on and was dead bottom 'Dark'. I decided to mix things up eventually to give me roughly the middle and i'm getting more customers again so i really don't see the point in them all.

I still don't particularly rate any of the others tbh. I've completed the 3rd dungeon with Louie at lvl59 (275hp, 62sp) and some very good gear giving him 140atk, 177def, 110 mdef. His 'allroundedness' and his spinslash skill just wins it for me. The blocking of all projectiles is just a very nice bonus
Charme is nice n fast but doesn't have as high defence or hp and for the later bosses you severely need both as many times it became obvious that trying to play strategically didn't work as well as charging in head first and spamming attack and spinslash like Louie could.
Calliou is too reliant on enemy positioning and SP and the speed and shear number of some enemies in the latter 3rd dungeon would be too much, i really can't get to grips with him even on the earlier ones.
Nagi isn't bad, her attack is only in front of her but its got a nice range to it and her rapid parry skill and non magic projectile block is pretty nice too, i might level her up more to see how her stats fair, main drawback is her delayed attack.
Tielle has an epic normal attack where you can charge the 'power' from a weak single shot upto 5 arrows in front and 3 behind along with some decent skills, though all are shot to pieces against bosses that move too quickly.

Edit: Seems i finally got Elan, think i had to sell him some armour first, but since he always had no cash i kept overselling and him going off, eventually just sold him some for 1 and the next day he gave me his card ><
Also completely out of the blue Louie has just started selling some rare items i don't have. A Boxing Glove and a Superfisher DX.

Ill try and play some more though I expect the FIFA demo and Move may take my time up - it definitely seems I should get into the dungeons just to get access to the other weapons (Claw and Parts)

I think the game would be harder if Price Up happened less often (or conversely Price Down didnt to minimise profit margins) and if customers didnt sell some decent stuff so regularly - so easy to get stuff very cheap and then sell it in the shop. Hell you could play the game never going into the dungeon and do pretty well - you wouldnt even have to favour adventurers buying particular things either...

I dunno, i think the problem is that not enough people seem to buy stuff. With the maxed out shop there are 2 window tables (though only 3 slots work on the right 1), 2 side tables and 6 middle tables. Honestly maybe 1 in 50 sales or something rare is off a table other than the showcase ones, the 2 SuperVending Machines (1 of them loaded with books which as it turns out is an excellent way to sell them) make constant sales, maybe 3-5 each a shop, but almost all my sales come from the showcase, orders or requests. So you tend to get left trying to sell as big items as possible and all the smaller stuff is just ignored because it doesn't attract any more sales. I dunno, maybe i should try an alternative like putting lower value stuff on the middle tables to see if people try buying em, though the Vending Machine is full of random crap.

Anyway, i do love the moments when an adventurer comes in asking for something vague like a weapon, meaning you get to offload his perfect item to him, hopefully for a good price. I had to sell Elan some awesome fusionlvl2 gloves for 1pix just because he barely has any cash, they were worth 80k or somet, Rocket Gloves+15 with a ridiculous +130ish atk. He is actually pretty strong in dungeons, a lot better than i expected. He has a short range but fast attack with no delay and very little knockback which can be bad on the faster 'leech' things but for the most part means he can get several hits in easily without moving. His 3rd skill, 'Berserk' basically gives him double atk (i think) and prevents him flinching but you can't use items. Effectively means vs bosses if you go in on full hp you can just stomp them into the ground before they can do any real damage and it doesn't last long enough to be a threat to you. Well it does on the regular ones, not sure how it'll hold up vs other adventurer bosses.

Sometimes i wish there was a little more guidance. Completely overlooked the 'booms' where you just put down an individual item or category that is listed as in fashion and you get a surge of a particular customer coming to buy it.

The difficulty curve of the dungeons is just insane. It starts off slightly challenging until you level a bit and get some decent gear under your belt, then it gets incredibly easy and pretty much remains that way until the end of the Lapis Ruins (aside from the occasional difficult boss), then the Crystal Nightmare comes in and you get all levels available to begin with, 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 and a boss run of every single boss in the game at a high level. Its gone from not having to care about the enemies hitting me because i level up by the time i get low on hp to having to be really careful. 3 times now i've killed a Bomb only for it to hit an enemy behind it and kill me with a 300 damage blast.

I'm just wondering how best to level up... Elan is now lvl92 and is awesome for regular dungeon delving and for most bosses but it seems Caillou is the boss destroyer, i just have no decent items for him and hes still low level.

Finally got around to playing some Recettear last night and I'm enjoying it even more than the demo :). Great stuff so far.

So my first attempt to complete it got me as far as the 500k payment but I didn't reach it :(. From what Tear said this was the last payment to meet, yet I'd only unlocked 2 of the dungeon (Jade Way & Amber Garden). No idea what I must have been doing wrong either.

Great game though, one of the highlights of 2010 and I'll no doubt play through it again sometime.

Yeah the 500k 1 comes outa nowhere and if you struggled to meet the 1 before it you don't have a prayer. Then you go into Endless mode or you can start again.

To unlock the 3rd you have to see Griff in the Town Square a couple of times (evening/night slots). Thats as far as you can go in the normal game. The 4th is unlocked once you have every other adventurer and have completed it and the 5th is unlocked the moment you complete the 4th (and is pure evil).

After that you can basically start dungeon running full time, though there are a few customer only items you need for fusion. You get a 'True Card' when you finish the payments which unlocks the adventurer you used the most at the start on any subsequent New game + or Survival runs so you obviously need to go through the game several times to get them all (Arma gives you it immediately anyway).

Update released:

Steam said:
Updates to Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:
1.108
Fixed typographical errors
Fixed error regarding the naming of the "brick floor" and "ruins floor" options for the shop
The reputation level of the shop with 'normal' customers (such as old men) now increases properly in both Survival modes
Adventurers should now properly equip any upgrades sold to them.
Adventurers will no longer attempt to wear two hats at once.
The crashes some people have been getting when the game attempts to play sound are fixed
if you are not getting sound, please ensure your sound drivers are properly installed and ensure your user permissions allow all programs to access sound hardware properly
Fusion requirements have been extensively reworked
lower-level fusions in general should be easier now, and some of the highest requirements (such as 50 Fur Balls for the Panda Suit) have been drastically lowered. Note that level 4 and 5 fusions are still somewhat difficult, however, as these are premium and powerful items
Fusion items might be useful now :)

The localisation has been done very well by Carpe Vulger, it's like comparing Dattebayo's subs and crunchy rolls from what i've seen of other japanese games localisations.

I like the premise.

I don't like the crappy Japanese ness of it all. The music is horrible, the dialogue is reeeeally slow and you have to put up with these annoying squeaking noises from the characters.
