Recommend me a Linux Distro.

Na I pretty much installed and ran. It keeps them quiet, which means I get to play on my big boy's computer. :p :D I tried an early Aspire One (mechanical hdd) and it was pretty terrible. The OS was awful lol

Yeah - I cant remember what it was called now, Linpus or something. It was terrible :( I installed Ubuntu 8.10 then did the netbook remix update but the SSD was so slow it made it unusable. Shame as it had a really good Atheros chipset based Wifi card in there too.

Reckon i might take your suggestion and run Arch on the new netbook and see how fast i can get it :)

Try Jolicloud. It's based off Debian and Ubuntu, and as such has all its advantages (massive repos, stability, usability). However it's specifically for netbooks, but above and beyond UNR it contains all the proprietary drivers for your particular netbook. It detects the make and model on install, and sets up the screen/gfx drivers and resolution, 3G, bluetooth, touchpad, and (crucially) the hotkeys for your particular model. It really does feel like a "native" solution, and is basically awesome. Way better than any OEM "custom" Linux I've seen thus far on a commercial netbook.

So simple even the kids love it, but it's Debian/Ubuntu underneath so a quick Alt+F2 > gnome-terminal later and you're in admin heaven. :)

FINALLY !!!!! - I've found someone who likes Joli OS :)

Since there's now only 2 of us - Want to be friends ? :D

No seriously, is there no one else out there who loves Jolicloud ?

JoliOS looks good. Downloading now and will have a play. Does it have a reasonable remote desktop client?

It's based on *buntu so you can choose your favourite, and they work fine. Here's an old screenshot I found on my server the other day, coincidentally, showing Debian to Windows XP using RDC. Easy. :)

As an aside, check out that insanely low RAM usage. Just over 80MiB with Gnome/Metacity, IM and RDC running. Sweet. :D

OMG Joli is awesome. :D

Tell me about it, this is the best thing that has happened for linux in years.

Stuck it on my wife's laptop and no complaints  Didn't even show her how to use it and she knows jack about computers :D

So awesome that I even tried to borg my main PC but forgot about the dual graphics cards driving 4 displays.

Anyway I have it as my main OS on my laptop... Pop on eclipse, svn, vpn and other stuff and you're fully ready to go.

Linux Mint fan here.

Switched from Ubuntu (I know its based on it), but love it.

Haven't missed W7 at all since swapping months ago.
