Recommendation for usbc nvme enclosure

Got my new enclosure finally. It was £56 but not from the UK so quite a bit cheaper and the heatsink that looks the same as @Feek used. The internal MM 256gb ssd seems to be a bit faster than I'd seen online too

Mac mini internal SSD -

4TB Lexar NM790 in the Acasias Enclosure -

Just ordered the same Acasis on the back of this thread. Just need to decide on a drive now. Thinking 1tb will be plenty as also have a 2tb NAS for stuff which isnt used as often.

That is quite the heatsink there lads :p

It is a monster but as it's not visible and stuffed under the desk it seemed better to go over the top and make sure it stays cool :D

Also just too add I've added all my work files to it this morning and things are noticeibly quicker working from it!

That lexar nm790 is one i have been eyeing up
For black Friday
Was expecting to see 3Gbs + from it
I guess what it's connected too also matters though

My understanding is that the Lexar uses HMB but I don't think it works in external enclosures. Still pretty good performance though and seems to have good speeds even for large file transfers.

OWC enclosure arrived, it is a weighty little thing. The solid block of metal does feel quality and makes the Sabrent feel like a toy.

Just wondering will the Mac mini look ok sitting on top of the OWC? The fans will help cool it and you could reach the power button with it off the desk.

Chaps,

I’m looking at an SSD for a thunderbolt three enclosure.

This will be used for data and large apps but nothing incredibly taxing such as videos etc., mainly documents and photos, time machine.

Am I going to benefit with some of their high-end drives? It seems to be an absolute minefield trying to pick which one because someone has a bad thing to say about almost every drive I’m looking at!

After 1tb budgets around £80. An I going to benefit from say a Samsung 990 Pro or WDSN850X, or would a Silicone Power US75 do the job?

I bought a 2tb Lexar NQ790 for £109.98 and it's faster than the internal storage, plus I've seen the 1tb as low as £67.99.

Thanks. Lots of terms flying around such as DRAM, QLC/TLC and Im wondering whether any of it will actually affect my use case.
You'll be fine with pretty much any but I do think the Lexar NM790 is around the best for the price. It used TLC rather than QLC and has a decent TBW rating (how much can be written to it) and its under your £80 budget
