Red Bull launch thread

I seriously doubt that it is all done solely by Newey. He will be the head of a team. Sparky, how big is the aero development team at RBR?
There will be a large number of people, no doubt... but would be interesting to know if the core ideas are mainly his own? Doubt we would know for sure until he left.

Personally I'd not like to be in RedBulls position... there is nothing worse than being totally dependant on one person. Should there ever be a fall out and newey left..

I'm sure every other team in the pitlane would love to be in RBR's position.

Best overall team.
They have a driver who may actually be the best in the World (only Alonso would stand a chance at beating him)
A design and engineering department which seem to always be one step ahead of everybody else.
They've had the best car for 2 seasons on the trot and won last year's title while breaking a few records along the way.
A team working in harmony (now that Webber has accepted his role).

For me, RBR at this point, are as good as it gets.

I haven't seen anything apart from the usual Mclaren tie in rumors, I really hope that happens. Surely the new engine rules make it worthwhile for a few of the big names to maybe come back as suppliers again.

With the original I4 design, definitely. Maybe not so much with the V6, but either way people like Honda and Toyota should at least be expressing interest. Have Cosworth confirmed they are making a 2014 spec engine yet?

Now, personally I think they should allow whichever configuration the engine builders want to go with, but that argument has been done to death on here so let's not go there. But I just wanted to point out....

Engines from the 1986 entry list (chose '86 as it was the only year that turbo engines were compulsory), for example:

TAG TTE PO1 - a V6 turbo
Renault EF4B - a V6 turbo
Renault EF15B - a V6 turbo
Honda RA166E - a V6 turbo
Ford Cosworth GBA - a V6 turbo
Motori Moderni Tipo 615-90 - a V6 turbo
Ferrari 032 - a V6 turbo

Only BMW and Hart made I4 turbo engines that year, and Alfa stuck it out with a V8 turbo. Of the six championships won by turbocharged cars in the '80s, five of those cars featured V6 turbo engines. The V6 turbo is pretty much the classic F1 turbo engine layout.

Did anything come of that venture Craig Pollock was involved in - PURE was it?

For a manufacturer to want to join F1 now though they have to have road car relevance for their engines. A turbo V6 is very rare (does it exist at all?) in any current mass market cars, meanwhile 1.6l I4 turbo engines are everywhere. Would be good to see them back though.

I thought PURE were confirmed and were aiming to be the first company to have a 2014 spec engine on a test bench?
