Now, personally I think they should allow whichever configuration the engine builders want to go with, but that argument has been done to death on here so let's not go there. But I just wanted to point out....
With the original I4 design, definitely. Maybe not so much with the V6
Engines from the 1986 entry list (chose '86 as it was the only year that turbo engines were compulsory), for example:
TAG TTE PO1 - a V6 turbo
Renault EF4B - a V6 turbo
Renault EF15B - a V6 turbo
Honda RA166E - a V6 turbo
Ford Cosworth GBA - a V6 turbo
Motori Moderni Tipo 615-90 - a V6 turbo
Ferrari 032 - a V6 turbo
Only BMW and Hart made I4 turbo engines that year, and Alfa stuck it out with a V8 turbo. Of the six championships won by turbocharged cars in the '80s, five of those cars featured V6 turbo engines. The V6 turbo is pretty much
the classic F1 turbo engine layout.
Did anything come of that venture Craig Pollock was involved in - PURE was it?
