Red Bull launch thread

No offense intended to red bull, but I always think how it could have been different for Jaguar had Newey not had a change of heart and sold his mate down the river at Jag. How much better it would have been to see a Jaguar win back to back titles.

Then again they probably couldn't have afforded to build the cars he's building at RB :D

The only thing I can see breaking his dominance now is the engine format change. Aero wise he will always build the best car when the rules change. He's proved that time and time again.

He signed a deal to join Jaguar with Bobby Rahal. Mclaren persuaded him to stay (sadly for me at least). He stayed with Mclaren and Rahals credibility was destroyed and he lost his position.

Jaguar announced his signing, he then signed for mclaren. Jag had a legally binding contract and a 'settlement was made'. I imagine his old friend Rahal was pretty miffed :D

Red bull just have a winning forumla, big financial backing and having enough commitment to build up a winning team, getting the key personnel they need and not chopping and changing every year.

Shock as top F1 personnel turn out to not be squeeky clean...

Don't see how you can hold a grudge against Red Bull for it though?

How was anything I said remotely indicating a grudge or an ill towards red bull  or any one else. I just wished he followed through and left mclaren earlier and maybe given jaguar a bit more life.

There were a million and one things that contributed to their recent success.

Not being in the title race (and allocating development resources for it) in 2008 helped them with how they started 2009.

Personally I hope there is at least 3 teams at the same level at the top this year.

They would have won in 2009 as well if Brawn didn't happen.

Just imagine how Honda would have performed in 2009 if they had stayed. They would have had the epic start that Brawn had, but the funds to continually develop throughout the year.

Exactly - always rued their choice to leave when they did

On the other hand think of how the 2009 Earth car would have turned out (far worse than the day-glo Brawn lol)

Think about how the designers/engineers must've felt about what they saw in 2009.

They worked their behinds off for many years, producing bad cars and probably getting told off by their superiors for wasting so much money on a bad job. THEN, just when they got it right...a lot of the workers were "let go", as BrawnGP were reducing their wage bill.

The Honda top brass would've been ruing what happened.

I guess its like playing lottery for many years, with the same numbers and not winning. Then you decide to stop playing and within a month or so, your numbers come up.

I think it would have hit Honda hard. Image and reputation are very important in Japanese culture, I can't imagine the embarrassment of BrawnGP would have gone down well.

Would they have seen it as "embarrassing" though?

After all, Honda put in the hard work and built a great car. Yes, BrawnGP took the accolades, but everyone in the industry knew that Honda were the ones who actually built the car (and paid for it).

i bet the people who made the decision to pull out of f1 got a bollocking :D

Personally I'd not like to be in RedBulls position... there is nothing worse than being totally dependant on one person. Should there ever be a fall out and newey left..

We have done this before but the Honda engine was rumored to be at least to be 50 bhp down on the merc. Whether that would have offset the disadvantage of throwing a engine not designed for the car in we will never know. Somehow I doubt it.

As much as I like Honda I'm glad we never got to find out, their whole involvement last time out was a joke bettered by Mugan and Jordan. If they should rue any thing it's getting tied up with BAR in the first place and not looking at a bigger and better team.

I doubt if they do rejoin mclaren they would make the same mistakes again.
