Red Bull launch thread

Sorry troll, keeping you awake?

Mr CS-Nuts comming back is he?

chill bud, nothing serious here, just a general chat :)

set aside the new regs for a moment and look at the car as a hole, to me it looks quite tidy and a overall great job. But who knows it could be a dog of a car lol

Im perfectly chilled thanks.

Early days, as ive said a few times nobody knows where they are in relation to others until Q3 Race 1, you just hope you have built something that you can develop into a race winner.

Can't say I like the look of the RB this year but it's a Newey design and what's his win-loss ratio on F1 car designs?

Been reading the interviews on the F1 website

http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2012/2/12987.html

It’s a difficult task, we have lost the exhaust technology with the restriction exhaust outlet position that we were able to develop and perhaps be ahead of the pack on in the last couple of years, that led to a big re think over the winter. Whether that will affect us more than other people is difficult to know of course. We designed the RB7, last year’s car, around that exhaust position and were probably the only people to do so, so it may be that we’ve lost more than other people through that. Only time will tell, it will be good to get out to do some testing and to see where we get to.

Interesting...

And of course the question on everyone's lips :D

Q: Have you thought of a name for the car yet?
SV: Not yet, no name yet! To be honest, last year we found a name I think Wednesday before the first race, in that race week, so we might be a bit earlier this year, but so far, no names. We have a couple of candidates, hot candidates, but nothing is decided yet!

My source tells me that the nose vent is a way to directly cool the driver's drinks bottle :p

Just goes to show the ingenuity at work within the Red Bull team, everyone else has gone about trying to smooth out the step, shape it as aerodynamically as possible, treating it as a problem to work around... not Red Bull though, they've seen it as an opportunity to be exploited and popped an air intake in there!

doesnt mean its the best solution just because red bull have done it

pretty poor when he was at mclaren

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Newey#F1_Championships

1986-2011, so 25 years and 8 wins. I think the figures are the same if you look at drivers championships too, as Hakkinen in 1999 replaces the Williams in 1994.

There is a big hole in the 00's though, but I would say that was more to do with the dominance of Ferrari and Schumacher than any major failings in his designs of the McLarens.

I wonder how many times his cars have been in the top 3 of the WCC?

He did. According to his wiki page, by the last 90s his cars had won 6 of the previous 10 championships, with 67 victories on the way. Then came the (relative) duldrum years for McLaren with only 15 wins in 5 years. Not sure exactly how it balances out when you tally it all up.

OT, but also on his wiki page is this little golden nugget, which I hope is true:

To celebrate his Red Bull Racing team's 1-2s in China and Great Britain Adrian Newey scarified the lawn of Team Principal, Christian Horner by 'donutting' in a Ferrari California.
:D

Got some free time, so put in order the WCC finishing positions for Newey cars from 1990 to present.

The different colours are for the different teams. Brackets are for the 97 Williams because it appears while it was designed by Newey, he had moved to McLaren by then.

4 2 1 1 1 2 1 (1) 4 1 2 2 2 3 3 5 2 7 5 7 2 1 1

Rather an impressive list of stats, tbh.

It is, i was there :)

Jesus, just tried to look up some details on the ownership of RBR but got distracted by Arden.

Sparky, does Horner still run the Arden team(s)? GP2, GP3 and the GB A1GP team plus RBR. Not a bad CV to have!
