Red Dead Redemption 2

I'm gonna buy this today, seems like all the talk of problems and issues have stopped.

What nvidia drivers are you guys using, I have a 980ti if that makes any difference?

I'm using most recent nvidia drivers and dx12.

Have to say, after a few hiccoughs at first, it's been running extremely well for the past few weeks. I can't recall a single crash, or even any noticable technical issues at all, in the 40+ hours I put in over the Christmas break. Even online mode is trouble-free right now.

I'm getting 55-60fps on my 1080ti at 3440x1440 and it still looks exceptional. (I vastly prefer the game in first-person on foot/third-person on horseback, though I appreciate that might not be to everyone's tastes).

With the initial technical problems now resolved, I'm really feeling this game is one of the masterpieces of recent times.

Bought and now downloading, 4 hrs eta.

Whats the situation between vulkan and dx12 - is there any hard and fast rule on which should be used?

When the game was first benched, it was suggested that Vulkan provided the highest average frame-rates, but dx12 had better minimums and less fluctuation.

I think this might have changed since, but I've not seen anything definitive in the past few weeks. I set dx12 because I associated Vulkan with better performance on AMD cards. I haven't bothered to change it since. It works well enough for me, though I have a sneaking suspicion I might now get slightly better performance with Vulkan. It would be good to get a clear steer on this, actually.

I was using Vulkan right up to the Moonshine DLC when it was broken and now have to use DX12. The issue is Frame time. I was averaging 12-16 up to the update but for what ever reason Vulkan now goes into random periods of 32 ms which causes stutter. No reason for it, can be fine for 30 mins then starts before stopping again.
No idea what is causing it, however DX12 for my set up is inferior to Vulkan...

Got Outlaw pass to rank 100 yesterday and not far off rank 100 in normal levels either, nearly have everything bought with the exception of the band for my moonshine shack, getting to the point where logging in to do the dailies is all that's needed, might finally crack on with the story.

Been playing around with the Nvidia game filters and tweaking some settings to make it look even better.

This game certainly looks very nice, got about 3 hours in this afternoon.

I did, in a fit of impatience, but it on xbox for my one x but shelved it after about 10 hours as the 30fps got on my nerves.

PC is the right home for these types of games but man it kicks the hell out of my 980ti at 1080p

Yeah that's a shame, I'd like to think everyone sees the story through as it's an essential experience in gaming imo

Certainly for games with shorter campaigns and big multiplayer bases like cod or bf i can understand, but i dont know how anyone could straight up skip the excellent novel that is the plotline of this game.

It really is a masterpeice and despite knowing the future from the original game it was still excellently told.

And ive only just started the epilogue...

Just had a mega shootout in Valentines sheriffs office, I accidentally shot the sheriff after he told me to get out, then wave after wave of deputies started turning up and began piling up in the doorway after I shot them.
I paused the game and loaded Wemod cheats for endless ammo, deadeye & no reloading etc. to see just how many would turn up if I couldn't get killed and it was crazy, they were piled up all inside the sheriffs office and outside the doorway, and all over the road and still they kept coming, in the end I bolted out and jumped on a horse and escaped leaving myself with a bounty of $1500 :p
