When will the n-out-of-n scoring system be done away with? A well-written subjective review should matter only; not some arbitrary numerical 'score'. How the frick can something as deep and complex as a computer game simply have a number slapped on it, deeming how good it is? Moreover, why do people flock to these scores like they're the Rosetta Stone of predicting whether or not you'll like a game.
Far too many statements like this: "9.8, so as good as Halo, then?". Good? Define 'as good'... As good compared to how much you liked Halo? Or good as in compared to how much everyone did? And how much is that? 9.8/10 people abso-****in'-lutely loved the **** out of Halo and wanted to mate and have little compact disc children with it while the remaining 0.2 people flushed it down the toilet?
The poor reviewer makes his/her notes, pours over the game for hours and hours, coming to logical and subjective opinions regarding every facet of a massive game and puts it all down into 3 or 4 pages of professional prose - to response "omg 9.8! lol ign gave gta4 10/10 and it were crapppp lol". If there was no numerical score stapled to the bottom of every review, perhaps people would READ the review and come to their own subjective and informed opinion instead of letting a number make the decision for them.
