You mean other than releasing GTA V 3 times thus getting people to double or even triple dip? (INB4 "That's down to people being stupid with money") it worked massively.

Also GTA:Online with the microtransaction shark cards.

No body forced people to double or triple dip. ND did the same with TLOU. People wanted to play it on their new consoles, supply meeting demand.
