Red dwarf coming back UKTV has commissioned 2 new series

I remember this from SG1 doing a parody of itself with teens. Horrific

But yeah, Red Dwarf's time has been and gone.

Its hard to win either we have pensioners in outter space or a reboot with teen dwarfters, both fail :)

But yeah loved that parody scene from sg1, looking forward to the reboot of movies :)

I'll happily watch another 2 series of the Dwarf.

Yes, series 7 was dreadful, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again. 8 wasn't that bad. It was mainly in a confined environment and had the bunk scenes back between Rimmer and Lister, which was a huge step back to the best bits of the earlier series.

Back to Earth... was an experiment that really didn't work. No studio audience, single camera setups, fully digital using the Red camera system, it was closer to a cinematic feel then a tv series. But it did lead to Series 10, so not all bad then.

Series 10 was pretty funny. Really should watch it again. Got the bluray somewhere...

I'm kind of indifferent towards this news. Back to Earth was an experiment which ultimately falls short without the live audience. The last season was decent, but I rewatched some episodes on Dave recently (like Legion and the Gunmen of the Apocalypse), and I forgot just how utterly brilliant it was.

Also those of you saying reboot it can spin on it. You simply don't reboot a classic series like this. It's like saying they should reboot Bottom or Blackadder. Without this group of actors and their chemistry that they've built up over decades of working together, it wouldn't be Red Dwarf.

It'll never be as good as the old stuff, but it'll still be better than most other stuff on TV so I'll be watching it!

Agreed and despite the downturn in series 7, 8 and 9 I can still watch those and find some laughs (at least as many as I get from other current shows, bar a few). I'll be tuning in and hoping for something like series 10.

Installed the youview box I've had sitting around at the weekend and discovered I could get UKTV / Dave on demand for free. Now seen Series 10 Episode 1. It is indeed quite decent.

No - Back to Earth failed because it was badly written rubbish. I suppose if they had a live audience, someone might have told them "this is ****" before it was broadcast though.

Skip the episode 'lemons'. It is appalling.

I'll happily defend series 7 and 8 in places. They both have their moments. The first 3 episodes of series 7 are poor imo(Tikka To Ride, Stoke Me A Clipper, Ouroboros) but from then on it is a solid stream of episodes: Duct Soup, Blue, Beyond a Joke, Epideme, Nanarchy. Pretty good run imo, and better than most series tbh.
Series 8 has Cassandra, which is one of the best episodes they ever made imo, also the opening trilogy is pretty good. Other than that it is pretty average.

Honestly, I consider series 3 to be the worst series overall.
