Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 FREE 5 DAY trial

Thank God for free trials as i would have been gutted if i had payed for that.
What a load of poop. To be honest i am gutted i even wasted the time downloading it.
It's the clunkiest current gamer ever in the history of man. The sighting is crap with stupid reloading and aiming.
The whole feel to the gme is just not fluid at all. It's like they tried there hardest to make an awkward game to play.
Out of a hundred i give it 1 point and that's because i didn't have to pay for it and it wasted an hour of a boring morning.

I used to play RO when it was a mod for UT2004, and found that if you play at the same pace as the rest of your team, it's fantastic. Already pre-loaded, so will have a game tonight :)

The pace of my team, now that's a laugh.

Spawn walk prone and wait. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

As some1 mentioned b4 this will not appeal to every1. This is not a game you can install and be proficient in straight away, there is a learning curve.

Some ppl have said before(on other forums) that it has taken a number of hours or in some cases days before they could get to grips with the it. Thats why the trail period is longer than most i.e. 5 days.

But if you didnt like then no harm done. Thats what the free trial is all about. :)

So basically you like games that encourage spray and pray tactics that don't penalise you for having no aiming ability, because you can simply spray and not worry about reloading time/needing to aim all your shots. In RO you actually have to use burst fire GOSH and aim OMG, rather than spray in the general direction and getting a kill after firing off 50 odd shots. The pace is also there to encourage you to think about what you're doing rather than running around like a headless chicken rambo style.

An hour is not enough for you to get a proper opinion, because it will take time to adapt to the more careful style of play you need to win.

Also if all you did is camp like you suggest then you weren't playing it properly. You are supposed to get in capture zones and cap or defend. If you are playing in a way that helps your team there should be plenty of action. Just press O and find out where you should be heading to.

Actually i did quite well and even managed a stabbing.
No i don't like to camp that's my problem and No we wasn't s'posed to be defending. All my team mates were hold up and doing nothing but shoot at each other. Odviously noobs on a free trial and bored.
The reason i didn't like it was because of how clunky it felt. Just getting up the stairs is a chore with things snagging you etc.
Having to reload the rifle every bullit and use the prone button to get up from prone and crouch to get up from crouch. Moving around is awkward and shooting although accurate is just as awkward.

But then like the more reasonable poster Catmangler said it's my choice.
I will of course try it again and again until the trial ends to give it a good fair go.

OK sorry maybe i got a bit carried away there :D

I recommend playing on a decent server where people play as a team to win. Most clan servers will have teamwork (when the clan guys are on). I play mostly on the Splat server (85.236.100.42:7757). There's some good regulars there, especially when the clan guys are around.

And regarding manual bolting. This was put in because people complained about having to automatically chamber the next shot, which meant you couldn't do anything until the animation had finished, often resulting in getting killed. Now you can take a shot, then load the next bullet if its safe. If not then you can run away to find cover or if you're under attack up close you can do a bayonet attack.

Getting snagged on stuff does suck I agree. I can live with it because its a minor point IMO considering the game as a whole.

I don't really find anything awkward about the movement and shooting. I think you can define in the controls whether a button is a toggle or not or if you have to hold the button down, so for croaching for me I just hold it down till I want to get up. Prone is a toggle so I press it and when I want to change stance I press the croach button or press prone again to stand up. It's something you get used to I suppose.

Just as a note: be aware that there are a number of custom maps out there that on the whole add a great deal to the community but some aren't as polished as others, so getting stuck in the map and in scenery are rare but it does happen.

The reloading of the rifle after each shot is s'posed to add to the realism. If the grunt on the ground had to do it back then so should you. In the mod days they had auto-reloading which imho was worse, as if a nade was coming your way you had to stand there whilst waiting for the gun to reload before you could sprint away.

Now, melipone1 sounds like he's been bitten by the bug that this game can give you and after awhile you cant understand why any1 else doesnt get it.

Melipone no offense intended as I dont know how long you've been playin for.

Now I dont want to turn this into a lecture but I've been playin this game for 3yrs +. So in time you have to accept that some guys dont like it no matter how much melipone1 and myself rant about it.

/whew end post

Wow in bf2 you can do the bulls*** in this game like camp and kill + more w/ planes and other classes.

In BF2 though its more about the vehicle combat than infantry IMO. The infantry guns are so inaccurate in that game and it takes like 20 shots to kill someone because the damage is so low. Also I'm not too fond of the jumping and spraying I see people do in it. It's just too forgiving IMO and less of a challenge.

Lol I personally dont play this game much anymore either because of the slow pace and the frustrating artillery strikes that are the bane of games like this and BF2.

But everynow and then when im feeling mellow ill play it, have a good crawl arround and shoot a few chaps.

Thanks for taking the time to give a good reply. :)

The bolt action makes perfect sense to me now it's been explained. Although Bashing/stabbing reloaders would have been fun as long as it wasn't me. :p
I do intend to play again and be more selective with the server. Hopefully i will meet a few quality players and actually play the game as it's meant to be played.
One thing i did like was the dudes and the general atmosphere and also the accuracy of the rifle. I was taking dudes out from miles away and only seemed to miss when i actually miss aimed.

As far as BF2 goes it is totally different and cannot really be compared. RO has an infantry and street feel about it where as BF2 has an Armour/air army feel about it.

Best wait till after the 5 day trial period to get some serious games going.
Currently the newbies are tearing it up abit as to be expected but its real annoying for those whom have played it a lot since release.

Its good I played it when it was free and I think its major problem was the lack of fanbase and it being pretty raw and clunky. Its been given a nice polish now and tank battles are a laugh although I find the best tank is the lightest one, that T60 with its psycho little cannon.

Its a good game, but I dunno if I can get used to the nasty graphics. Shame really. Even with AA&AF enabled its a blocky blurry mess. Its buggy too. I tried sneeking through some bushes and I dont think I was meant to go there because the entire screen turned white.
