Rediscovering my love for Quake 2

Ah memories.

I still can't believe that the first time I played through this game I used the keyboard and no mouse...

Heh, I remember doing that on the original Quake.. Remember going on FFA servers and wondering how people were making such impossible shots with a keyboard - Oh the wonders of +mlook.

I still get the urge to play q2 online. I stopped playing it about 3 years ago but played it religiously until then.
I don't expect there's much of a community left for it now.
I think Fuster's is still running though - I was in their clan for a good while (!EAT!).

Did you use the same name as you use here ?

I still play on Fusters now and again, its getting harder to find servers with a decent no. of players on but there are still plenty in the US and with Broadband they are pretty decent to play on as opposed to the old days with the modem. Theres also a Polish server that's usually full and some good players on where you should get 50-60 ping.

I loved this game and like you say best deathmatch map ever.

There was also a mod i loved, i cant remember whether it was Q1 or Q2 but it had laughing grenades in it ....used to play that online with a 33.6 modem i think lol

Q2 will alway be one of the best games i played because of ctf and voodoo1/2 which made it look stunning.
voodoo1 and 2 made q1 look a lot better aswell if i recall right

Hehe, I remember that name! I had numerous names but the last one I think was X-Dream. I used to play on Fusters DM and got quite into Freezetag.

I was into all the jumpmod servers for ages too, I was responsible for the annoying series of D3ljump maps

It really was a legendary game, I was playing it on a daily basis for just under 10 years. If only they would make a 'Quake 2 Live'

Been playing with Quake 2 Evolved (tho won't run on my S10e stupid Intel GMA) and it is class! The Beserker's "Trespasser!" scream and mechanical clunking still get me!

Will be buying an nVidia ION based Lenovo S12 when funds permit

I bought the ID pack on steam beards ago when it was something like 70% off, it had every Doom,Hexen,Heretic & Quake versions included...was great fun re-playing the classics.

Q2 was sluggish.

I used to play Q3 at a vaguely high level (BW\Savage div1) - decided to have a bash at RA2 for a laugh, got recruited to a good clan within the EU scene... Taking good speed\rocket spam to a slow game = win, people weren't used to it

Hi there! I'm from {KEA}, we're still around, though transfered to CS and then CSS years ago. Nice to read this thread, I may even re-install Q2 for a laugh

Our American cousins in KEA still play the game a lot I believe

Forgot how awsome it was Plus I didn't have the hardware to propperly get the most out of it upon release.

Play any games from over a decade ago and see if any of them are as awsome as you remember! Go on, do it!

Quake 2 stands up as a decent game with or without nostagia.

I do at the moment I'm playing through Deus Ex again and to be honest when I compare most of my old games(Giants: CITIZEN KABUTO, System Shock 1&2, Monkey Island 1,2 &3, The Nomad Soul, Baldurs Gate 1&2 + Expansions, X-Wing, Screamer ect...) to the new ones I feel that most if not all the old games have better gameplay, Story & Length than the new ones.
