Redundancy....

Well, this is sort of a "Quick! To the internets!" thread, but the heck with it.

Four weeks ago, my department were called into a meeting to tell us that 1-2 of us would be made redundant. We only have 5 people in the Supply Chain department and one of us were a dead cert for redundancy so I figured I would be OK. Fast-forward to last Monday, we were told that the board has decided to let 2 of us go. Unfortunately, because someone was on holiday until today, we had to work for almost 2 weeks knowing that one of us last 4 have to go...it sucked.

Anyway, today is D-day. I leave in ten minutes to go into work (on my day off) to have a meeting where I find out my future. I reckon I'm gone, even though I'm the 2nd most senior person there...unfortunately, because my work cuts across all sections of the company, no one really gets to see my skills at work (unless something goes wrong.)

I just hope they don't make me work my month's notice. I will get a small redundancy package, but its not enough to be honest. I could blackmail them with their illegal business practices, but, I'm not that sort of person...

This sucks...wish me luck guys...

They are making my department more "streamlined" as they put it, having only been there a year so chances are im going to be moved. Having that feeling is just crap though knowing you might not be doing what you are doing now in a few weeks time :(

My last working day is 27th March, just had my last pay packet and the notification of the severance payment. We lost 2 of our team of 8 and 30% of the department overall. Oh and we made record profits last year. :)

Just remember, if it is you, that it is the role being made redundant and not you personally. Whatever selection criteria they use will be somewhat arbitary anyway. Sounds like corporate BS I know but in reality it is generally nothing personal.

Despite the doom and gloom about the economy there are still companies hiring, there are still jobs out there to get.

Remember - if it's small enough to fit in the boot of your car it's not stealing it's part of your 'severance package' :)

Good luck mate! Just remember, it could be worse; you could be living in Gravesend.

I see what you did there! ;-)

Sat at my desk right now waiting for 0900...My boss is quite friendly this morning. To be fair, he's in a bad situation because he's a nice guy, but he has a job to do. 1/2 of my wants to fly off the handle and tell a few people what I think of them, but I also know that's not right, and I've made a name for myself in this industry. I wouldn't want to tarnish it and burn any bridges.

The real question is, assuming I'm made redundant, and I get back home for 11AM - is that too early to get drunk? ;-)

Wait and see what happens dude. If the worst happens, have a day or two to chill/get drunk/whatever then get back in the saddle!

Good Luck and remember if you keep your job then you do NOT do the job that the unlucky ones did. That job has gone as redundancy means the job is no longer there.
The forum collective holds it's breath.

good luck . . .

someone once told me to "always be true to yourself" - so if you have things you want to say - say them - if you are being made to do things that are suspect - dont do them - life is simple and you have choices.

BE TRUE TO YOURSELF - saying things "after" the event is meaningless and says a lot about the person you are.

I hope it works out for you - especially after waiting for 2 weeks without knowing - that says a lot about them!

khushy

Best of luck. Glad you have seen sense and decided 'not' to shout of and give people a piece of your mind about what you think of them. You never know when you may work alongside them again and/or you are in dire need of a job and it would be working with them. It happened to a lady in an old company I worked for. She literally went round a huge office telling people what she thought of them as she had been offered a new job. It then fell through and she needed her old job back

Having a good attitude on you're shoulders when in these situations is always a good thing no matter what the outcome.

Good luck.

Good luck mate, hope its good news!!

My old man is in the same situation but he has to put his case forward as to how he can save the company money. I assume they are hoping people will say they will work for nowt!!
