Redundancy....

Just don't tell them how near completion it is otherwise they might make you finish it before you leave (Depending on how long 5% of the project takes that is). Either that or they'll get you to handover/train someone how to do it in your absence.

I emailed myself a copy of the files I was working on...It's really basic cost-analysis type stuff...but currently they have no way of verifying whether certain invoices are correct or not. I sort of took it upon myself to fix this.

Basically, I try to save the company my wages every year, so that they're justified in hiring me. This particular project would have saved the company 2x my wages. I've deleted them from the work computer and only have them at home...no one will be able to pick up where I left off. I'm sure someone will start fresh doing what I've done, but not with my work they won't...

The only frightening thing is that I have no qualifications to speak of...I dropped out of high school / Uni, and worked my way up. This company looked past that, and now that I have experience, hopefully it won't be a problem. The Director of Operations has given me a reference, as well as the Supply Chain Manager, Production Manager, Production-Planning Manager, and Director of Finance. Because we're the second largest company in the UK in this industry, hopefully that'll be enough to make other prospective companies look past the fact that I made poor choices in my late teens, early twenties, and hire me.

Also - I just wanted to say (and this may be the beers talking, or the fact that I finally got my Charger in WOW) thanks for the support guys. OCUK ROCK!

blimey . . .

sorry to hear your news - and your attitude is a credit to you - hope your "new" boss is reading this thread!

Remember - "there is a bum for every seat" so look at it like a new chapter in your munky1080 book!!!

I could be wrong, but i would imagine the decision has already been made when the meeting happens. Last minute changes or statements are not going to change anything.

In fact, iirc, guidelines state that when making someone redundant, its as business like as possible. Managment wont rise to anything, and will just defer you to HR.
When there was a round of redundancies at my company last year, all those whose roles were made redundant were invited to write a letter to the executives, making a business case why they should be kept on.

I think that out of about 20 redundancies, 2-3 people kept their jobs this way so you never know.

Thats grovelling, and prostituting yourself, and tbh if the executives dont know why a person is being made redundant and dont know the role the person plays then the board is full of ****wits. You're better off out.

Im sorry you have lost your job but to me it sounds like you have been hard done by. Thats why I dont get 'emotionally attached' to work anymore. I go there, work and thats about it.

start taking stuff, is what i say.

Being made redundant and a criminal conviction wont help future job prospects. ;)

OK - This is awesome...a bit of an update...I've been working in my sector for just over two years..I'd have liked to thought I made a bit of a name for myself, but I wasn't so sure until now...

I got a call at about 3PM from a competitor; evidently, my redundancy had proliferated around the market, and I got a call with a job offer. Not in the same role I'm in now, mind you, but basically, the same job my boss who just laid me off has.

I am not taking anything for granted, but the person who called me used to work for my company, and I know him quite well (I even loaned him some pocket money before!) He is also the person who would have final say on who is hired for this position. I still have to go through the interview process, etc, but I reckon I'm on to a winner. If this pans out, I will be on a much higher salary than I was hoping to get in my next job.

Besides my daughter being born, and getting married, this is the craziest day of my life!

Again - Thanks for the support!

That's awesome news :) I was reading this thread thinking I would post that it could actully turn out to be a good thing and looks like it might!

A similar thing happened to me and it turned out really well as I got a much better job and had 6 weeks holiday paid for by my last company not to mention the re4dundancy pay out :)

be careful deleted documents and taking them home now, you don't your new job opportunity in jeopardy over a gross misconduct incident.

The same thing happened with my GF, she got made redundant in July last year, 6 weeks later she got an offer of a better job of 30% more than before and for a job she has wanted to do for the past 10 years.

So while it might be doom and gloom now, good things come to those who wait!.

Just make sure you check out the office birds knockers before you sign any contract first .

What Goes Around Comes Around in life my friend , it appears form your posts you have a great attitude to work ethics and other peopel have noticed this in the past .

I manage a small department of around 20 people and one thing that always gets ny goat in the work place is poeple telling me and I quote " But thats not my job to do that " . Bit of advice to all here, those people are usualy in my experience the first ones to go . A have in my working life made it my must thing do , at least learn the basics of everones role in your work place , Teaboy upto the Chairman , it maked you an assest to the firm .

Good luck with the new job fella , I am sure it's a blessing .

Unlucky mate sorry to hear it.

I know what it's like.. I was lucky enough to have a job as an IT Support Technician working for a big business and i got made redundant.

I am now working as a Shop-boy with useless hours finding it hard to get something i'd like to do.

IT Support Technician to Shelf Filler ( How good is that? )
