Refund??

A store i used to manage had a credit note policy,i used to hate it,customers would go mental at me  Rant in the middle of the store, not good for business imo

You could argue that it was mis-sold to you, but you'd probably be lying.
However if it was true you'd have legal recourse.

Wait wait.... you bought something, then on a whim decided "Meh, don't want it now" and took it back...

The shop gave you a credit note for the value of the goods, even though they've no obligation to do anything at all, and you're complaining?

Surely the distance selling act applies here then. I believe you have a period of 14 days to return items in the condition they left the shop for a refund. May be worth contacting trading standards for clarification.

Sorry - but why exactly would the DISTANCE selling act apply to a purchase made in person in a store?
The idea of the Distance Selling Act is not a "Try before you buy" service.
The idea is that when you buy in a store you've got the opportunity to look at the goods etc before purchase.
When buying from a distance you cannot - hence the act.

It in no way comes into effect when you go into a store and make a purchase.

Spoke to area manager and to quote...

"We are here to sell, not to give refunds"

Me = "That says it all, goodbye".

He was VERY shirty and defensive with me. I'll keep my credit note but HO will be recieving a letter of complaint in regards to attitudes from both the Branch, and Area Managers.

You are the one in the wrong, not the store. As has been said, you were not entitled to any form of refund, it was a gesture of goodwill that they didn't have to give. Be glad they didn't charge you a restocking fee, as they could have done that.

The distance selling act allows people to send back items within 14 days as there's no way to physically see the goods before purchase. It's not so people can change their minds.

I'm not disputing that i have to keep the Credit Note, i can't expect them to change company policy for one individual.

What i do expect is a level of Customer Service that the Customer should be happy with, which i wasnt!

They may not need to refund you but its pretty crap service if they didnt.

We had a really nice bloke(as in personallity) come back with a sub because it doesnt fit in his boot. We couldnt refund it because he didnt have the box.....so he got a credit note. If they can sell it again i see NO REASON at all why they shouldnt have refunded it.

My experience of MW isnt that great either.

We never follow company policy, just an "at the managers descretion" policy. You can usually assess the situation and decide what to do. If we can sell it again.....and if that will make the customer happy then thats what we do.

True, but you want to take something back and probably won't be a customer again, so you've given nothing to them as a business except the hassle and paperwork of restocking something.

I know it sucks for you though and its annoying when that happens. I've always found one way you can be sure you might get your money back is that if you bought a number of items, take them all back and keep just one (the cheap one!) and they probably happily refund the rest.

If you make enough fuss then you will probably get a refund. Threaten to go CA B and your solicitor. Although they are really in the right the company will probably give in as it is too much bother to fight it. Just be adiment about what you want.

Car parts are a knightmare to take back to be honest, you need to be sure before purchase.

Halfords are good on this. They tend to take returns no problem, helps if you keep the packagin of course.

I had to take back a spanner about 4 times because I wasnt sure of the size needed and I couldnt afford a set, they had no problems

Please dont, its a PITA when a customer gets all "im taking this further" when all you said is they have to wait a few minutes for the assistant manger to come back from fitting a bulb. She was getting what she wanted but she felt she had to boss everybody around.....that got her nowhere.

I also get guys that dunno what size torx bit/socket/spanner they need. You can bring them back really easy.

Surely you'll want to sue them for causing you undue stress because of their high pressure sales tactics. I would demand nothing less than the M.D. ritualy disembowels his/herself outside the shop at 9.00am Monday morning.

Very Slim

Just because you changed your mind doesn't mean your entitled to a refund.

Thank you.
For a moment there I thought my common sense radar was slightly off lol :)

OP:

Credit Note is them being nice.

Next time think about it fully before you purchase an item, aye? :)

nm, just lol @ the "we're here to sell" thing.

They're a business. Didn't see that one coming.

I dont see the problem, if anything they are gaining interest on your money, I broke a bottle of beer at asda today after i paid for it and they swapped it without any problem
