Refusing to fill out the census

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to at least provide the basic personal details for a census. They've been useful and important for centuries.

Right now i have the census minions and the TV license "enforcement division" harassing me to no end. They knock on my door and put letter through my mailbox on a weekly basis. I refuse to comply with their totalitarian demands. For security reasons I will not enter in to a contract with either the tv license organisation or the census organisation. I read the legislation and there is nothing in the legislation that states that I have to engage in a contract with them. No one, not even the state has the authority to force someone in to a contract.

The data is collected and they do not guarantee the security of that information, people have suggested completing the form and filling out incorrect information. By doing that you are more liable than not competing the form. The information is not released for 100 years, so what is the point. I have no interest in census because for one I do not support the state and for two, i will never see the statistics anyway.

What i do is not even answer the door, they can't take someone to court if they do not have your name. I am going to move house soon as well. Get away from this totalitarian harassment. Don't get me started on the TV license.

But your information was the only thing the office of national statistics really wanted. They have been hunting you down and they thought this half a billion operation would do it. I guess if you don't fill in this form then the government will have no idea about you and have no other means of getting this data about you :( I mean Osama was only caught because of his census form so you are right not to fill it in. The metal strip in money can be used to trace you too.

Not everyone supports the state. Not everyone wants to be in every database. So in the future something that i do today, which we take for granted, becomes criminal, which makes me a criminal. The police can use the census database and the tv licenses database to find me etc.

For security reasons it is recommended to join as little databases as possible. But most people support the state and do not take their information seriously. Same sort of people that are on facebook and their image comes up when you search google images etc. Some people join every shop and have 50 store cards.

I am only in a limited amount of database at the moment and i would like to keep it that way.

The census act.

If you live in the UK you are required to fill out a census every 10 years. Just the same as you are required to pay income tax and stick to the speed limits.

The census is required for plenty of things, even for your great great great grandkids to find out a bit about you. As for the TV licence well i don't agree with that anyway so that doesn't matter :D

I think the police might have slightly better ways of finding you than using census or tv licence databases.

I think you may just be the most paranoid person on these forums. If you've nothing to hide then what's the problem. Or do you have something to hide?

lolyup!

Groen, if you really think this country is that bad, pop over to Uganda for a fortnight.

I'm serious.

This. It's simple fact, if you don't like/want to abide by this countries law then you need to move.

I personally think they should step the penalty up to imprisonment, then we'll see how many tools now decide to fill it in.

I am not paranoid at all, just cautious with my personal information. Ok forget the example that I said about the police and how in the future something today that is not a crime could one day be a crime.

The information could be used by anyone, private investigators, debt collectors etc. I do not trust any government agency with my information due to their abysmal track record at data security.

Plus this is not like it was in 1920 when it was first done, where it would just sit on a shelf in a file in some building. This will probably sit on some windows box in a sql database at the military contractors building. Where it could easily be compromised and what not.

I am still waiting for the exact part of the legislation which states, i am legally obliged to enter in to a legal contract.

You're utterly mental.

For someone who is dead against the census you sure don't know much about it. Caution is a healthy trait, generally to be applauded but you are beyond cautious Groen.

There are plenty of things wrong with the government and 'the guys at the top' and I'm 100% sure that they lie to the public about lots of things, but you have to pick your battles. Raging against the census just makes you look like a nut.
