Relationships: Is age a issue to you?

Age is a huge issue when you are young but it becomes less and less important as you get older. Somebody of, say, 22 with somebody of 16 is just wrong no matter what you cradle snatchers might think but somebody of 55 with somebody of 45 is compeltely normal and utterly acceptable.

It's all about dating someone at the same stage of life as yourself.

That’s a load of rubbish and you always spout this. Not all 16 year old are immature. Not all are in school. Some people work from a young age, leave school at 16 go into a job and you would be hard pressed to tell them from a 20 year old.

What it does depend on is what the older guy is like. He could be totally normal then it would be fine or he could have a penchant for younger girls which would make the relationship more questionable.

So it really is situational.

Thats not bad.. 16 and 20 isnt bad.. 15 and 20 would be.

My ex was 18 when i was 17, she always complained... Its stupid to complain about it, if you like someone then.. What can you do, its daft to be bothered about the age difference, if you are bothered then its not worth been in the relationship.

Thats exactly what he is saying though  or at least that is how i took his post.
He is saying the same STAGE of life not age, as in a mature working 16 year old is at the same stage of life as a 20 year old.

Deep down, no matter how quickly they abandon education for a full time job on the tills in the local makeup department, 16 year olds are still not fully mature. Besides, I said the same STAGE in life is the most important thing.

Why date someone who will want different things out of life than you?

Why would he date children if he didnt have a penchant for younger girls?

mate of mine has just started a relationship with a lovely young lady. shes 16 and he's 20.

now he is concerned of what people are saying behind his back.

what are your thoughts??

I'd say it's only a problem if he lets what people think affect his relationship.

If it works for them and its legal then great. Its not really anybody elses business.

I don't think age matters at all. It's different if someone is 16 and there's a big age gap because 16 year olds won't be as "ready" for the same things that a 30 year old would. Once people are both a little older then it doesn't matter.

Personally I prefer older men as I've got older, if I weren't married I wouldn't be looking at men my own age.

I'm 22, my girlfriend is 18 (we were 17/21 when we started going out), it hasn't been an issue - though I guess it completely depends on the maturity of both of the people..

oh for god's sake...

If he's happy and she's happy then why should he care?

Honestly think about it - they're two clumps of flesh and blood. One came into existence a few years after another. they'll both grow, they'll both have a good life (hopefully) and they'll both die.

So who are they trying to please? Tell him to live his life, enjoy himself and have fun with her cause any day could be his last and nobody and nothing of the society that judged him will make a difference.

How true. Do the 'right thing' and nobody cares, do what's 'perceived' taboo and society's on you like flies on dog poo. What a joke. Do what pleases you as long as you're not breaking the law (unless it's a dumb law of course, only numpties follow blindly)

Personally to me it isn't an issue as long as i'm on the same wavelength as someone. I'm 19 i'm not looking for a guy who is ready to settle down and have kids, I'd rather have fun, travel and enjoy being together. I do go for older guys though, always have. Guys my age leave a lot to be desired on the maturity front most of the time.

Yeah, that's what guys that can't get teenagers anymore tend to say...

I find rather than blossoming they just get fat.

I'd far rather have the voluptuous, experienced, emotional mature older lady over the whiny inexperienced teenager who thinks a good night out is updating your facebook or ending up so drunk you spend most of the night vomiting in the toilet.

Oh and all older ladies are fat.

Aye, I imagine the good catches don't particularly fancy stereotyping rolling eyes chubby chaser types like you either...:rolleyes:

Well it really depends on the age.

A guy I know (who is 38) is now dating a stunning 20 year old who I also know to see.

He already has 4 kids by two other failed marriages and left his 2nd wife for this young thing. He is a freelance photographer in his spare time.... and from what I have heard, he managed to chat up this girl by telling her how good looking she was while photographing her for her graduation - when she had just turned 19 (paid for by her parents). Unfortunately, his real job involves working with her father in the factory we work in. The girls dad is now looking to kick his head in....

This guy has now moved in with the 20 year old and will no doubt get her pregnant at some point.

Everyone that knows him thinks he's a bit sick now - including me.

i cant blame you, i think all fathers generally like that. but you never maybe he will supprise you ;) when he eventually comes along....... not that he wouldnt be nice or anything........ *runs*

Girl I'm trying to get with said her Dad encourages it.

"Use condoms, have many boyfriends" is what he once said I think, since in the past she's had long term relationships haha.

16 and 20 is very :s :s :s

I'm 20 and have an 18 year old sister and a 16 year old brother.

School was fun...my mate would hit on my sister and her friends, and they'd in turn tell her how gorgeous her little brother was.

But me fancying a girl my brother's age? No way!
