Remap question

Hi all,

I've spoken to my fleet manager and managed to sell him the idea of getting my new company car remapped to "improve economy" - he said he was happy for a remap as long as it did not involve modifying the car, i.e. physical changes to the car (i.e. exhausts, intake that sort of thing).

Now bearing in mind that it will be a bog standard car and not have any modifications, are companies like superchips (I'm not necessarily meaning them but using them as an example) worthwhile seeing as I won't need a custom map?

Unfortunately, we've had all our company car choices severely restricted owing to wanting to lower tax and costs, unless you're on the board or a senior manager you have very little choice. It's a lovely 508 1.6 HDi Active. :( Hence my reason for a remap - it'd be nice to at least get it up to around 140 to make it less painful.

I wouldn't be paying for it. :) I'm not overly bothered - I'm not really after the economy (that's how I sold it to the FM however), I'm after getting a bit more power from the ****** little 1.6 in the tank-like car. If I get more mpg - it's a bonus. As for the the remap being discovered, it can be backed out easily - when I've owned my cars, I could do the same. no reason why it shouldn't be the same now.

For something like this I'd be looking at a tuning box instead of a remap (although for your own car I'd only consider a remap).

Tuning boxes are just a lot easier to remove and you can have it posted to you instead of having to take the car to them. It might not be as good for the car but why care when you'll be handing it back after 3 years anyway.

Yeah tuning box would be simpler but I don't know if the new 508 ecus can do it? It's only out of curiosity I'm looking into this.

Yep the FM would put it on the record of the car. :)

TDI Tuning indicate that they offer a tuning box taking it to 138bhp.

Will never be a popular choice but I do have rather a soft spot for the 508 styling.

I've used a BSR tuning box. I've looked on their website and Pugs aren't (yet) on their lists.

You plug it into the car. (essentially) Press go and it uploads the remap. Unplug. Job done. You can revert in the same way.

All declared with my insurer.

Out of the choice I had it was between that, a Superb and the Focus. The 508 had more toys and creature comforts than those 2, but the focus was the most "fun". The superb just felt like a less nice place to be. The other cars weren't even worth looking at!

I've been in touch with TDI Tuning who seem to have a plug in box - seems good. I'm waiting to hear back from angel tuning.

Ultimately, if the FM thinks it's too expensive, I won't bother.

If it's all been approved I don't see why you'd bother with a tuning box. Get it remapped by someone who has done the same engine a few times!

Tbh unless it grenades it's very unlikely peugeot are going to be looking for a remap contrary to what people think it is not easy to spot if a car has been mapped as long as its done by a company that know what their doing there is no way to tell unless you start looking at ecu parameters which is not something a dealer is going to be doing

Tbh the dealer won't care even if it does go pop

Car goes to dealer
Dealer diagnose blown Engine
Dealer get peugeot to pay them to supply and fit new engine

Not in the dealers interest to be inclined to care

I'm all up for that, but I want to make sure I get best bang for buck, and whilst I don't have a set budget, I can possibly argue the case for a few hundred quid, but not for coming on to a grand. :) I've got a good relationship with our FM, but at the same time I'm not going to land him with a large bill or try and take the ****.

I was just after ideas/recommendations/suggestions/alternatives. Then I can take that away show him what I've got, and if he's still up for it, go for it, if not I won't bother. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that jazz. :)
