Remapping. Risky? Your thoughts?

There are plenty of far cheaper to maintain, cheaper to run, cheaper to purchase cars out there but Scania made the choice not to buy one of those, instead he bought a Volvo V70 D5.
What are you on about? My D5 was cheap to buy, has been cheap to run and extremely reliable bar the bloody DPF issue (which is relatively common on older thus equipped cars) I was having lots of instances where the filter would clog up causing it to go into limp mode, even after a run of over 300 miles.

Since it's removal the cars been absolutely fine, mpg has improved considerably and unlike many remapped diesels, it doesn't throw out plumes of smoke when you accelerate, it passed its last MOT (which includes a smoke test) without issue either.

I didn't tell the tester it had no DPF and he didn't comment on it not being there because visually it's housing is still where it should be, it's just the innards that are not present any more.

I'm currently wondering what's worse, i.e. doing the work, with the side effect of making it illegal, or then telling people on social media that you've done it?

Yea I think there are too many judgmental people in here.

And the above statement is my OCUK being polite and family friendly tailored version :)

I already found a photo, so it's definitely on here.

I'm not some petty saddo or a grass so I'll let you find it on your own, but it's definitely on here ;)

Eventually - I think there was a fiddled with dag dag first though
Looking through his history it had no DPF as well...

Yep
Haha busted
Cool
Well, look at the positive, he's learned and changed!
Yep, I learnt my lesson the hard way. I reversed my 2.2d dpf delete prior to its sale. It was really horrible. The smell got into the cabin, the complaints from a few motorists... Hence buying petrol cars since.

I don't mind Diesel cars. Heck we have a 1.5d cmax. What I hate is the smell, from obviously messed with diesel cars. Since a serious bout of covid I'm really sensitive to certain smells and some even make me feel physically sick. Ammonia, chlorine, untreated diesel exhaust fumes are some of the worst ones.

Unfortunately the chap here, in this thread has shown a complete lack of care for other people. I've found what I needed. And will decide what do with the information next week. I might just forget about it, or not.. depending on how my work day goes. My post was sorta in jest originally.

Threads gone a bit sideways talking about dpf's and the digging of dirt and threatening to send to authorities....

To get this back on topic,

OP, I'd highly recommend using these guys for a remap if you go ahead with it.

https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/ecu-tuning-vag-porsche/

They are literal gods in the vag diesel world, they know the engines inside out, have the parts in the shelf should anything be found untoward and they won't carry out any tuning until they have given the car the once over and decided it's working 100% not will they even attempt to tune it should they find anything wrong without first fixing the issue.

This gives piece of mind, and no other off the shelf flash will give you the quality these guys do.
