Yeah, I think I donated 4500 at the time! It did raise funds for a good cause!

I don't care what my post per day count is I've got a big gob & like to have a say. :D

However it could prove rather problematic for the MM, even assuming it could simply be hidden but still available to the moderators so they'd know when the 250 posts were reached there is then the problem of letting the user know that they've reached said target - you could possibly set up a script for an auto-notification at that point but that would mean 'hacking' the forums and that's not likely as those are kept to a minimum. Also given the amount of queries on the MM already when it's quite clearly laid out in the FAQ this idea would surely boost that exponentially.

It can also be quite handy to identify spammers but maybe the situation is slightly chicken and egg anyway so there'd be fewer spammers and therefore less need to identify them.

ooh i forgot about the PC auctions, i myself donated about 2500 posts to them, iirc i even started an auction.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

The most useful thing postcounts have done on this forum is raised money for charity. In that respect they're worth having.

Removing them won't stop the spam.
 
people don't post +1 for the post count though. they dp it because they agree butcan't be bothered to type/get involved

I always thought of it this way. At least to me, forums are a medium for interacting ideas rather than an avenue for 'democratised' opinions, as in a place for people to 'talk at each other' in a public space. Although I understand there is a social aspect present, I never got why people would post 'I agree' or similar sentiments unless the thread was specifically about what the composition of the forum as a whole thought (and even then, a poll would do a better job for this).

I have noticed the odd person who probably do honestly care about postcounts and the attached avatar policy though, the sort who dress up their '+1' and 'state the obvious' posts a bit so they don't get accusations thrown their way. Usually the telling factor is when their avatar changes immediately after they hit the required mark. :D

Mine's real! Stop belittling something I don't care about! :(

It is nice to see people's contribution at a glance, and those with augmented post counts I assume had their money go to charity? So equally laudable, if not more so.

Personally I could have my post count dropped to 250 and I wouldn't be bothered [I plan to use the MM soon, so not 0 please mods! :p]. At the end of the day you should care more about a user's quality of post, not their quantity.
