Renting with animals - why is it almost impossible?

Well I guess other selfish people who make poor life choices and take ownership of more animals than they can accommodate properly might agree with what you're proposing. But again, they'd be a minority.

I can, and do. My question is asking why it's like this and that has been answered. I am not saying landlords should be forced to accept pets (Even if there are bills saying pretty much that) my OP was to ask why it's such an issue.

It's simple.

Supply and demand.

There's. More demand than supply.. So they can choose.

Its capitalism.. Making most money they can

Pets add more risk and faff for landlords.

If you.. . A) only care about the money. B) have strong demand.. You can pick and choose.

And this is the situation. It's as simple as that.

It sucks. If I was a landlord I would allow pets. I would restrict number. And I would insist on a bigger deposit. But as a dog lover I would.

And that's a small pool of people unfortunately. And the properties you are looking for are in even higher damand than normal rentals.

Our current landlord shares your views and we are very grateful for that. But you're right, that's a very small pool of landlords and the housing crisis in the country doesn't help with demand so high. It is what it is. Based on some views in this thread I now understand why it's such an issue - people want an easy life and that's their right. Fair enough.

We will just continue to save for a little long and buy our own place as soon as we can.
 
If you had one or two pets you'd probably get a lot more sympathy, but bringing half a zoo in to someone else's house and expecting them to just accomodate your life choices is a bit much tbh.

Op have you tried offering g cold hard cash?


5 grand signing on fee to the landlord plus an additional deposit or agreed professional cleaning at end of tenancy?

Give landlords an actual incentive to make you the preferred tennant rather than putting you at the bottom of the list

Of if your through a letting agent offer the agent a grand bonus… would be amazed how many landlords find they have zero offers bar yours put to them

I do. That’s not very respectful and I wouldn’t want a tenant to do that to me, if I was a landlord. So I wouldn’t do that.

We have not tried the cash upfront approach. We have offered higher deposit (agencies say they not allowed) — the professional cleaning is a great bit of advice.

We may give that a go with the other bits you’ve mentioned — if I find the motivation to keep looking for a rental.

It's more effort than it's worth at the end of the day. I just couldn't be bothered with it if I were a landlord. Just more opportunities for the place to end up wrecked, on top of the usual potential bad tenant issues. Would you pay more to a landlord that allowed pets?


When all's said and done, get your own place, then you can do what you like in it.
