Replayability

I just don't think I have the stamina or attention span required for long play RPG's anymore despite devouring them in my early gaming days :(

Sometimes I think part of it is simply that we've 'been there, seen that before'. It can take a bigger change of style with a game to have the desired impact like before.

This thread takes me back to older consoles when you couldn't save progress and therefore everything had to be replayable e.g. Sonic on the Megadrive... I never got bored of the first level :)

Is Warcraft also cheating? I wonder how many WoW players have 5+ max level characters, and accounts more than 5 years old!?

Multiplayer games are replayed though, they're more along the lines of persistent.

I clocked up hundreds of hours on Q3 MP as a kid but I wouldn't consider that 'replaying' anything.

I forgot about oblivion. Played through it once on PC and then again on Xbox for the only reason that I got a free xbox copy.

I still play planetside, still nothing comes remotely close to it's scale for me.

Is planetside still going? been tempted to resub to it for a while now, and probs will if some servers are still running and are reasonably populated.

Half Life 1 & 2. I've played through both of them a few times oh and soldier of fortune.

Maybe the older games had more re playability compared to today's offerings?

Edit - just saw you said the same thing squiff :) - agreed!

I think it's the opposite - newer titles are designed to be more replayable, which in turn can make them feel more shallow.

Dead Island played through it twice with the same character I also found Fallout 3/New Vegas great for replay ability

Mass Effect 1 & 2 more than any other game. probably 3-4 play throughs on each

Not specifically directed at you Aricin so don't feel singled out but... :)

I don't get that, I enjoyed playing ME1 through the first time but it did become rather repetitive... for me another play through would be a waste of time and dull.

I really don't get all this repeatability stuff, surely there are better things to do, if you like games that much play a new one?

I know I'm the sort of person that requires fresh stimulation so I may be a little biased but I still don't really get replaying something you've already played and know the outcome, the argument of 'different paths' is a pretty thin vale because ultimately it's still very much a similar if not the same experience.

There are occasionally games whose quality surpasses that of games for years to come. That's why people go back to them. An example would be FF VII. I don't think (opinion) there's been a better FF game since.
