A tailor to make you some jeans? and or a nice going out shirt? It doesnt have to show a huge logo to be brand name, most of the up market stuff is quite concealed, im not sure what you are referring to really.

You sound like a narked off 50 year old dad that hates buying his kid the latest stuff :). I will quite happily spend 100 quid on a pair of jeans if they fit and look good, they dont have big logo's on them thats not what you pay for.

50? lol, i feel older. im actually 27.

I refuse point blank to pay more than 50 euros for any item of clothing bar coats and shoes.

A nice going out shirt for where exactly? I don't bother with places that have a dress code- its pseudo-pretentious crap. It doesnt mean you get better people, you just get 'better dressed' tossers than you do outside.

If the fact that I have money to spend isn't good enough for me to get in, then tough, I'll go spend it somewhere else. Your loss.

I don't go clubbing. Ever. The music is horrible (be it awful commercial dance, dodgy 70's music, truely awful watered down r&b and so on), the drinks are overpriced and somehow they even make bottled lager taste dodgy, and some nigerean guy keeps trying to attack me with perfume in the bogs (ok...not every club, but it happens far too much...is he supopsed to be some kind of valet or something???).

Now don't get me wrong- I like most kinds of music, but I like my music to be of some artistic merit, be it a decent live DJ, live music or whatever.

However, most clubs don't play decent music. They play the mass produced 'fashion' version of the genre, usually DJ'd by someone who thinks DJing involves knowing how to use a set of cd decks, or some total muppet from the local radio station.

Granted there are a few really decent venues, which justify the pretentiousness and inflated prices, but they are few and far between.

I'm far happier just going down the pub to be honest. Generally speaking I don't even go that far. I just have some mates round for beer instead. Maybe a barbecue out on the balcony in summer, otherwise we might get some multiplayer gaming going, or just chill out and chat about stuff.

If I'm going out to eat or to some function or another, I'll wear a shirt, certainly, but its just a shirt...its not like someone will be checking the brand, I'll buy one in dunnes (irish department type store, not expensive) or something. I definitely won't be buying from next or topman or *shudder* gap.

I buy branded clothes because they fit better, generally look better, and last longer than generic cruddy George 20p jeans.
Dunno why people are saying stuff about advertising the company, a lot of the brand stuff i have you can't see the logo or brand name visibly anywere so god knows what your chatting, granted a lot of brands are like this with a huge logo on, but a lot of premium brands also have bespoke garments too.

or you can buy decent quality jeans for less money because they don't have a brand name.

Look at marks and spencer for example. Their jeans aren't brand named really, but last forever and look like any other jeans.

I have no objection to spending money on clothes. I just object to paying to advertise companies, without any appreciable gain in quality over some of the non branded clothes you can get.

As for the 'bespoke' items, I concede a point that there ARE clothes made by some brands that don't have logos emblazoned on them. However, you still get to pay extra for the brand name. You can get shirts of better quality for less cash.

the idea that brand name must = better quality because it costs more is a fallacy.

No Marky Mark. I just find it odd some people would rather spend more money on clothes just because it says bensemen, nike, Levi, Calvin Kline or whatever rather than saving the money for more essential. It's all swings around abouts, Yo.

Lol nicely spelt wrong on purpose. People also buy the said brands because they are generally a higher quality piece of clothing than something cheap. I know i've already used George jeans as an example, but they are £4 for a reason (they were £4 last time i saw them) and if that suits you then fine, but some of us like to pay a premium and get a more comfortable, better fitting piece of clothing for ourselves.

Just because you cant/wont pay for it, doesn't give you the right to blaspheme at others who chose to.

Other than shopping at places like Topman, River Island, Next, Envy, Debenhams, John Lewis, USC etc your going to be going to a supermarket for jeans cheaper than what they would cost you in those shops, and budget supermarket clothing, in a word is TERRIBLE. Supermarkets do have some good clobber in them, and do sell some nice things, but then the price of these are more expensive, i remember i looking at some that were £25-£30 which is the same as shopping in Topman, RI etc, so where do you draw the line?

blaspheme? your brand names are holy to you?

It is a fact that you can get better quality clothes for less money than buying branded items from a high street store.

branded != better quality 90% of the time.

Yes quite clearly i idolise my clothing and worship them.
Please stop being a plank, you clearly know that wasn't meant to be taken literally.

Please show me some websites, that sell good fitting, good quality, good range of clothes for cheaper than high street?

The guy wanted to know about the websites not whever branded or non branded is better... but seens as i dont buy clothes online...

Branded clothes do fit nicer and oftern will look nicer. I think you have made some pritty strong judgements up in your mind without really trying many branded clothes.

Marks and Spencer jeans are different to other brands. The vast, vast majority of them are single colour, there is nothing to make them stand out. There are a couple that are slightly faded in parts. Their jeans are £25-£35. Those are Topman, River Island, Gap, Next, etc prices...

What makes M&S special compared to Topman, River Island, Next and Gap?

Quality over brand name, every time.

If the two happen to coincide, then happy days. I refuse to buy, say, a ben sherman shirt just because it is a ben sherman shirt. I'd rather get something of better quality for lower price in dunnes/m&s. Ben sherman is probably a bad example though.

Nike shoes! aha! I will never, ever buy nike shoes. The build quality is awful! I can get better runners for less cash practically anywhere.

I'm sure I read something recently that a lot of knockoffs are actually better made than the branded stuff they are replicating.

pre faded jeans? why? why would you want to buy something that looks like it came from oxfam????

I dont particularly want to 'stand out'...what I WANT is decent quality jeans that will last. I want them to be either blue or black. I want them to be faded because I have owned them for four years, not because its supposed to 'look cool'.

They look really plain. It doesn't have to look like it's been owned for years, but something kind of interesting - a pattern, or different colours - would make them more appealing.

I can't see the point in buying branded clothing at all. In fact, the only brand that I pay a bit extra for is Levi's. Now my Sister is totally the opposite to me. She's a slave to fashion and has to have the best brands, it's been known for her to spend £150 on a single item and only wear it once.

I don't mean for this to come out in a challenging way, but why Levis?

I just like the way they're cut, I go for the loose style and boot cut and they just feel right when wearing them. Plus I get them straight from the US so they're slightly cheaper than over here too. :)
