Maybe it does, there arent any good Resident Evil films to date so this might be the first.....

It hasn't been all that long since the last two live action outings, both the TV show and movie being utter plap.

The TV show was 2022.
As others have mentioned, at least this has a decent director if nothing else. I think going the route of a new protagonist/random pleb instead of upsetting fans by butchering the original characters is by far the best option too.
I'll give it a watch, not really expecting much but I did enjoy Weapons and Barbarian.

Trailer indicates is just a general horror, nothing that indicates re universe really besides name.
I mean director has said it’s not gonna use any story from the game so to be expected.
This franchise just needs a quality person in charge as would be ideal for a tv show if done right (let’s ignore the one attempted already!)

Saw this trailer at the cinema
Thought it looked pretty decent to be honest. We've already had multiple Resident Evil movies and all were failures in their own way. At least this is doing something a bit different.
