This could go either way like the original 2002 film and its sequelsSome how hoping it’s not a disaster. Booked first showing Friday afternoon at cineworld. Didn’t bother with imax, as Edinburgh screen is proper Liemax, years old and often breaks down lol they had so many fails with odyssey with the projector basically burning out haha

Nice one dude. It’s still a bigger screen and better sound. Weird format though, so if I don’t get back center of the last 3-4 rows I feel you end up being too low to that screen.I got the Edinburgh IMAX showing on Friday. So maybe see you there if you change your mind.![]()

Just back and I really enjoyed it. Really capture the RE feel without committing too much to the game story arc. The ideas were quite good and the acting was decent, the only dubious choice imo was the ending.
We had a couple of yank tourists sitting near us and they were yapping from start to finish. I get they were excited but it was a running conversation. Some people told them to stfu and still they continued.

I went in blind other than a trailer and for some reason I thought this was going to be played fairly straight faced, a more ‘serious’ take compared to the goofy 2000s films, but only a few moments in it started laying on the ‘humour’ pretty thick…
One of my least favourite modern tropes, because it’s been done to death, is the self-narrating smart ass ‘Hiccup-from-how-to-train-your-dragon’ unlikely hero character. Whatever I was expecting, from this film, it was not ****ing that!!! So there is a lot of bumbling around and “woOooOoOAh, this is crAaaazyy” buffoonery, which caught me so off guard that I spent half the film recovering.
To be fair though, it doesn’t go quite as hard on that as I make it sound above. The humour lands at least as often as it misses and I did chuckle on a few occasions.
The horror side of it is mixed. There’s some surprisingly decent tension set-ups and fun creature design. Unfortunately that fizzles out about the same time of the humour wears thin and the film runs out of steam in the last 1/4.
Some of the fan service moments were horrendous. Yes, the character walks passed some first aid sprays… and a typewriter. I couldn’t help but exclaim “…for ***** sake!” on several occasions, and left the cinema sort of shrugging at wtf I just watched
6/10 - absolutely not what I expected, but it’s a watchable comedy horror crossover that’s passable at both.
