Respected Windows 7 Tweaks

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

That is supposed to be disabled, yet something seemingly keeps starting this up. I get the taskbar icon pop up from it all the time; bringing up Task Manager always reveals that WMP has been started. What do I have to do exactly to stop it completely? Using Win Vista 64 Pro.

run > type services.msc > scroll to the wmp network service > properties > select startup disabled

Yes it works great. I use the old style right click as well as disable the taskbar preview. As i said earlier in the thread I set mine to no grouping "never combine" in the taskbar options. Then i set the width of the taskbar applications individually in the registry. This works great and I can set the grouping of individual applications with this app. Which means I can set no grouping on applications. It also speeds up left clicking between applications because it does not load any of the jumplist bs. Sometimes when i clicked on an app it would not open and i would have to click again, this fixed it.

Hibernate Off (Space saver, elevated CMD prompt > powercfg -h off)
Defrag Disabled (SSD)

Disabled Services:
Server (Security, mainly)
Print Spooler
Adaptive Brightness
Computer Browser
Disk DeFragmentation
HomeGroup Listener
HomeGroup Provider
Internet Connection Service
Superfetch (SSD)
Windows Backup (No System Restore either)
Windows Defender
WIA
WMP network Sharing
WLAN AutoConfig
WWAN AutoConfig

I disable a few UI things like shadows etc but keep the Aero experience as I quite like it + It's usefull (Aero peek etc). My system is plenty fast enough to handle it though.

Enabling No GUI Boot stops showing the Windows logo animation during boot and speeds up boot time anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds.

MSConfig > Boot > No GUI Boot

Do you have a source for that?

Reason I ask is my animation does not even finish on my Vertex 3, cuts out after about half a second. Is it something to do with before and after presenting that screen or the animation itself?

I turn off System Restore and Hibernation.. also some of the visual bits like shadows, more for the cleaner look.

ms fanboys telling me i have chip on my shoulder because windows 7 hard drive sleep mode was causing my hds to make ridiculously loud noises and come up with messages telling me to backup data... prime example of what exactly ?

i don't instantly think ms sucks because i have a problem. i think ms sucks because i have been using their OS for 10+ years. i have said i like windows 7 after 4 hours of disabling and customizing options. tweaks to me is registry changes that allow you to make changes that are not in the standard gui available for changing. for example windows xp has the tweak ui software that allowed you to make some changes. I see no reason to have the attitude of "no os is perfect so don't say anything bad about ms and shut up."

as for testing, sure i am being a bit obnoxious about it. just trying to make a joke about it as well.

If your such a smartass and Windows is so bad. Then why are you on these forums? Why not go onto Mac OSX and be a proper fanboy? Or if your that clever, why not make your own Linux distro to work how you want it and try and make it perfect? Come back when your finished

Was that really necessary? we all know Groen's a bit odd but baiting the trolls isn't usually a smart move, especially in his case.

I didn't realise how long ago his comment was, otherwise i wouldn't have posted. But i felt at the time my point was still valid so i left it.

I'd assume its rubbish. Its not going to take 5 seconds to load an animation like that, and there is no reason for MS to make the boot time any longer than it needs to be. That said, this is based on logic, so who knows.
