Retro console and games thread

Blimey...busy week lol

Loving the original need for speed :)

The 3DO games were a job lot with the console and the Famicom games were from Japan ordered over the last two weeks, just happened to filter through the post in short time.

Also have a mod chip on the way for the Sega Saturn. An anniversary present from my wife - she knows me well.

Enjoyed looking through this thread, brings back painful memories though of being younger and lending out lots of nes and master system games and never getting them back :(

Gave up collecting ages ago but not so long ago I picked up the donkey kong country trilogy for just a tenner, couldnt resist at that price. (Just the carts though) I'll have to dig out everything I have and get some photos up if anyones interested? :)

I LOVE theme park, I've been keeping an eye out for it on eBay; playstation version along with theme hospital. I still have the original pc disks, but it had no real time mech, so back in the days I used to play it on a 386-40 with 4 meg it worked perfectly, but now none of my machines have a floppy drive and I cba to mess around with a vm just to play it lol.

just put my gameboy micro on MM if anyone is interested

Out of interest what do people consider the most up to date retro console; or what do you collect up to? For me I collect up to the PS2 but don't consider that retro as they still produced them for some parts of the world until recently and Fifa 14 yet to be released will be available for the system. But the original Xbox meets the criteria of nothing being produced, yet was release later than the PS2.

The Gamecube hasn't seen a new game for years but can be played on a system still being manufactured. So for me, 1998 to 2002 is the most up to date. The release of the Dreamcast to its last released game.

I tend to buy only the games that I want/intend to play regardless of the age or format or region of release but anything that's not current gen; as in not being sold by the major shops or online retail can be considered as retro.

I don't consider myself as a collector but more of a connoisseur.. :D lol
If I'm know I'm not going to play it; like X men vs street fighter (ps1), cos its a pants port and I know my nephew still has it as I gave it to him; I'm not going to waste storage space 'collecting' it even if its going for stupid prices on flebay.

Its a costly habit.. I'm on a Level-5, Atlus and Vanillaware kick at the moment.

I think that I am on the same kind of path but I do like having a collection. Im not trying to complete any catalogues. It is a bit of reliving my teens again really. If I knew the games were naff I wouldnt buy again and some games I couldnt afford back when were current, then I have picked up cheap now

DC tbh. Still bitter at humanity buying PS2s and not Dreamcasts. It was just stretching it's legs  :(

Oops just saw this. Yeah phatboy you're welcome to borrow it if you pay postage. I'll just send the disc in a sleeve to make it cheaper :)

I suppose the term retro means outdated stuff and it's up to you how far back you go. The Xbox is over a decade old so I'd personally call it retro. Love my xbox btw, if you're a retro gamer I highly recommend it for some of the amazing exclusives as well as being the best way to play games from the last generation. Plus they're ludicrously easy to mod. Love being able to dump all of my games to the 160GB HDD I popped in mine

EDIT: Oops, brainfart. Just realised this was a double post. Sorry!

Just go an email about this new Retron 5.
Supposed to play 9 different retro consoles?
What are everyones thoughts on this?

There's a few reviews on youtube, emulation seems a bit off on certain consoles, the package controller seems dredd to me; so If your paying for the games and controller; its only a few more pounds for the actual consoles. But as an all in one; its more tidy than having all them consoles around. I be more incline to get an OYUA and pair in a ps3 controller myself.

Had a good day hunting for games today one of the best ones in a while:

N64 with 3 pads and loose games all for £20
Boxed super mario £1.99 (2 marios in 1 day!)
Primal Rage PS1 £1
Resident Evil £1.50
Metal Gear Solid £1.50
Buzz Quiz TV Special Edition PS3 £3.99
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 £1.99
Leapster "games" 50p each (ebay fodder seem to go for more then 50p)

I'm waiting on 6 official ps1 memory card; 3 of them still boxed to come. Managed to get them for 3.99... :D

Just need some time off work so I can enjoy them now...

Ooo impromptu visit to the local Car Boot Sale and I walked away with this lot...

I already have a C64 back at my parents house, but the 1541 wasn't working.

All a bit yellow, but happy none the less.

Also got an N64 a few weeks ago, I'll look it out sometime soon.

Popped into Insane Games Brigwater on Saturday. Turned out to be a bit painful for the wallet :p

Boxed Dreamcast and Saturn. The Saturn is in mint condition (quite a surprise TBH) and has what appears to be everything from when it was new. I even found the original Argos receipt for it; £130 back in 1998!

Dreamcast is slightly yellow but, I initially bought it for the spare parts so the case codition wasn't a major concern. I thought the AV out was gone on my current one, turns out the cable is the problem :o. Oh well I can try my hand at some sort of region mod now. :D

Rather amazingly the Saturn doesn't look *that* bad played through RF on our 1080p LCD TV. It obviously will be better with a RGB Scart cable (especially upscaled via HDMI - seen some videos on this) but, it is perfectly acceptable for now. Maybe this is down to the somewhat blockier nature of the Saturns graphics? It certainly looks better than the N64 via composite (mind you smearing vaseline on the TV would look better than that!)

A few more pics (I thought I had taken one of the Saturn itself but it doesn't look like I have):

New one is very clean inside.

Could have been a much more expensive weekend as in the window they had a Atari Jaguar, multiple PS1's, GC in silver, Atari Lynx, Dreamcast, Another Saturn and a few more which I can't remember.
