Retro console and games thread

Oh cool yeah the apprentice looks cracking. Just had a look on ebay and you can get the original micro machines on it! Only 5-6 quid too

Just ordered a second Dreamcast VGA box to go with my second DC. Identical model to what I already have (pictures above). Under £23 and should be with me tommorow thanks to Prime.

My plan is to run it into the centre monitor of the 3x1 Eyefinity setup in our office / study / second bedroom / whatever it is called now.

My wife had the idea to turn our second bedroom into a sort of study come game room.... I am very lucky! :D. I think she is a little tired of all of the consoles hooked up to the lounge TV TBH.... :p

Since we moved house last September we lost a third bedroom which means space is a little tight. We will probably add a sofa bed for when it needs to be used as a bedroom.

I will try and get some pictures of the second DC setup at the weekend.

Ask and ye shall receive: (I need two new chairs)

A quick shot of the cable management meaning I don't have to see any wires unless I go hunting for them. The VGA box can just be seen in the centre of the shot:

This took quite a while to get all up and running. The DC ended up being hooked up to the monitor on the left rather than the centre monitor. Tried out Sega GT and it looks basically identical to playing it on my other DC downstairs (hooked up via VGA to our TV). I was a little worried how it would look / play on the monitor but all is good. :)

Hopefully soon we will be sorting out some new sofas downstairs so the current one can come up into this room and sit under the window. This will allow me to play the DC (or PC games) from the comfort of the, well, sofa!. :D Sadly I won't be having any of the other consoles set up here for a while - beyond what I have setup downstairs - as I don't have the necessary AV equipment for it all. This will come in the future though.

looks epic :D

Should have got an NTSC copy if you intend to play it.

Another of Nintendo's half-assed coversions.

Did not cross my mind tbh. My Zelda is NTSC and I have some strange adaptor cartridge to allow me to play it :p.
I will probably do a switchable 60hz mod on my SNES at some point.

Tonight on Ebay I have won Megadrive with Mega CD and Master System converter. Excited!

Thanks! :)

I just need to source a DC Keyboard and mouse now for some Quake III / Unreal Tournament action. I have tried playing both on the pad and I suck..... badly. I did manage to draw with the first bot on Q3 though.... :o

I need to do this soooooo much

It is one of those things, it wasn't messy before but I *knew* the cables were all there hidden under the drawer unit. Now they are all managed in layers with colour coding for "easy" tracing.

baby on the way, consoles packed down in storage out the back... another 8 boxes or so in the attic or under our bed but the nursery has claimed my retro room. :(

And where did you buy all your boxes? I might do this with mine.

The thing with boxes is you tend to buy 3-5 at a time and run out rapidly at which point they are gone. From memory I'd say I bought some from Poundstretchers @ 3 for £10 and I bought the most recent bunch (black lids) about 12 of them from my local Asda at £3 each

Quite a few random places will have them, just make sure they are sturdy enough to stack if you buy from really cheap places. :)

Thanks, I will need to do the same to time. I will check those stores out over the weekend.
