Retro console and games thread

There is a couple of crackers on mega cd, my favourite is snatcher. Pricey though!

I will most likely sell one of my Gen1 Mega CDs.
Both have excellent lasers _ I even tried a cdr which runs fine, which is surprising considering how picky they were known to be!
I hear the Gen1 Mega CD often broke but the Gen2 one just isn't as cool looking in any way!

The Mega CD had a lot of good games.
Some were just cartridge games with little extra content, but others added new content to make it a worthy purchase. Some games were just crappy FMV games which seem to be a video, others such as Sonic CD were the best sort of games imo as they were an entirely new game that used the additional capabilities of the console.

The Mega CD is essentially a Megadrive that had its own CPU (same as Megadrive but 12.5mhz not 7.5mhz), stereo sound and the benefits of CD capacity. It sold at a ratio of 1:5 with regular Megadrives so I would not brand it a flop.

The 32x was a disaster though.

Mega cd had some fantastic games - thunderhawk, final fight cd, xj220, bc racers, sonic, fifa, sol feace (simply for the soundtrack), sewer shark also road avenger was utter dung was comedy bleeding gold!

I may be getting a another original Konami beatem up soon Vendetta. I play Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles a lot and thought I could do with some new PCBs.

Nostelgia :)

I love that game, remember play it back in the earlier 90's with my older brother......and that 3rd level....:D Obviously Konami wouldn't get away with that in gaming today.

Ohhh yeah! Forgot about that. Now if I remember correctly, was sonic CD the one where you looked at sonic from behind? Or a mix of both?

That was Sonic 2 bonus stage unless you are talking about that ramp in the first part of level one?

Also the Mega CD has the best version of Final Fight.

I never owned this one back in the day but I did complete it on xbox live arcade many years ago. Alas a real NTSC copy of Castlevania Symphony of the Night which I got for a great price from a UK seller on the bay. I just can't do pre-Dreamcast PAL games anymore. I was even comparing my JAP Soul Edge to PAL Soul Blade and the borders you get are massive:(

PS1 PAL games are bad compared to the NTSC versions BUT Castlevania Symphony of the Night is one of the few games to own a PAL version of due to the Limited Edition OST which came with it.

Got a few more things over the weekend:

Sonic Mega Collection Plus (was there a normal one?!) on the PS2 - £2
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 PS1 - £1
Vigilante V8 2 DC - £3
Toy Racer DC - £4
PS2 Slim with controller & memory card (+ 6 month warranty) - £24.99

Not a bad little haul overall. I picked up the DC games because they were mint and for once had no cracks or broken hinges.

Now I am pretty much done with the consoles I want to get so can concentrate on the games.

The Sonic Mega collection is fun and for £2 was hard to pass up. The games appear to be emulated PAL releases (slow music on Sonic 1 intro) but play fine (at least as far as I remember). I have the same (or a similar) collection on the GC and it feels basically the same as that.

CMR2 brought back some fond memories. Obviously graphics have moved on a hell of a lot, but I can remember quite vividly my jaw dropping when I first saw this running on my PS1 (when I was young).

I picked up the PS2 to act as a stand in for my Phat PS2 which I want to keep looking mint. The latter is also quite noisy whilst the slim is basically silent.

Still on the hunt for a Dreamcast Keyboard & mouse for some Q3 fragging.

EDIT: My collection is growing quite nicely (although pales to a lot of the ones in this thread - I need more room!)

(Please excuse the Abone / PS4 games here - I have all my games in one place).

Nice little collection there oweneades. Wish i had never gotten rid of my original DC (or any of my other stuff for that matter). You know you can buy a DC mouse/keyboard brand new don't you?

I have kept a lot of my older stuff, still have my NES (now yellow sadly) and boxed games, gameboy, PS1 and my favourite the Dreamcast. I do regret getting rid of my Xbox 1, no the original not the One urrgh Microsoft.... and Gamecube. Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue 2 in English, Gun Vlkyrie and Jet Set Radio Future.....I miss those if only they came out on the Dreamcast rather than that MS gargantuan black brick....

I miss the GC for Resident Evil Remake and Zero, I'm kind of tempted to get them again, or at least a backwards compatible Wii since its a bit smaller :)

Thanks. I love my DC's. I need to pick up another 2 or so for parts / region modding as I don't really want to mess with the ones I have (they work... lol :p)

I have seen some around on different sites on the internet but I am always a little dubious about ordering from places I have never ordered from before, at least without first seeing proper pictures of the product. I prefer to try to pick up the retro stuff physically or via Amazon.

I may just have to suck it up and order one I have seen. Not in any hurry so I can bide my time.

I think i was quite lucky with my original DC as it would play anything i threw at it out of the box without any modding. Maybe you have been lucky and picked up one the same? Tried it? The keyboards and mice i have seen were from Amazon resellers. I don't suppose you are local to stoke as i know of a shop to get them new also.

Gonna get an N64 goldeneye boxed package I think, Iv been having lust dreams for it for years and think I just need to get it done now.

Still got loads of DC games that I have to put on ebay sitting, cba to list them all individually so might try my luck at a BIN listing.

I havn't tried... need to have a go at least. I see no evidence of a mod chip so it probably won't work.
