Retro console and games thread

Nice almoststew1990! May I ask what you use to clean the controller up?

Neil - Whats with the Amiga purchase binge :D Nice find btw, may I ask how much?

I used Sainsbury's own fairy liquid and a mix of nail brush and the rough side of a sponge. I did have to scrub for a little while though to get off some of the more unpleasant grime.

Nice one, thanks for the info.

Moved into a new place, don't have to pay expensive rent for a place that was bad for my health. So treating myself, one to two games per month :)

£5 :D

WHAT? off the bay? Surely not? That's in very good nick!

Just dusted off the old A1200.

The 80mb harddrive doesn't work anymore (powers up but refuses to spin) so I've replaced it with an 8gb sd ssd packed with games. Booting into Workbench takes about 8 seconds!

The keyboard is a bit knackered and the floppy drive doesn't seem to work properly so I've ordered replacements. I now need my brother to go through his cellar to see if my original Competition Pro (see thru edition) is still about as I don't have a joystick at the moment. No point having an Amiga if you don't have a joystick! I'll also have to take some time going through a box brimming with old Amiga Formats and Amiga Powers.

I've got the old Philips monitor working too so it's an authentic experience, but blimey those old crts were awful! Perhaps I need a scan doubler next so it'll work on a decent LCD.

I'm glad that the old 4mb 28mhz 020 expansion card still works ok. Must resist buying an 040 or 060 though!

I guess the next job is to try and get a PCMCIA wireless card and get this old bird hooked up to the Internet.

Been very slack on the MVS front, but had the week of work so tried to do something productive :p.

The box is ugly and the spray job is even worse.

But she's a contained unit, just needs a scart lead and an ordinary kettle plug. Button at the front is for credits.

Your have to excuse the dark pictures, had to close the blinds, had horrible sun glare on the TV.

Next step is to get it working with the Framemeister and probably upgrade the BIOS to the universal.

Could anybody recommend a decent 15 inch 4:3 LCD TV that would be good for retro gaming?

I've tried the CRT route before but just don't have the room.

I never heard of it before! So literally its just a group of people putting stuff on the interweb for free?

phatboy you telling me people gave that stuff for free???

Yep completely free!!!

Put a post up on my local site asking if anyone had any dc stuff they didn't want. He mailed me back and said i am just down the road and have a Saturn and dreamcast you can have i find when clearing out cupboards!

Where i got my fully boxed 1977 atari 2600 "sunnyvale" and a playstation 1 too :)

Insane. That is fantastic bud :)

I've bought something retro-y.
Im not gonna tell you what it is yet, but I am willing to entertain guesses :D
Clue: It wasn't cheap at all (and probably could have purchased it for a lot cheaper). But lets say were talking in the region of £1k.

What is the etiquette behind this- do you generally take the whole lot of stuff even if you only want some of it? Do you offer to pay a little?

I guess its a being genuine situation. If you don't need it all then yeah just take some. I make sure i state i am not a trader and its for my use, as i think that is wrong when people do that n sell on personally

I didn't have a series 1 Saturn and wanted one and my dc is little flakey at times so nice to have a backup if it dies :)

Any bits i have already from that bundle i was going to give away on here to like minded retro peeps :)
