Retro console and games thread

Hhhhgnnnnnn Egret 2! I'd love one of those if i had the space. Wrong orientation though with that Screen :-D hahahaha. I'd have Battle Garregga in that... oh the Dream!

Ha, don't worry it spent plenty of time rotated during my cave addicted days, ESP RA.DE is so so good.

Remember B&O didn't make the CRT tube it was a just a brought in tech from an aperture grille manufacturer ( I can't remember who they used).

The only thing which may set them above others is some of the later models did have a lot of useful picture setting options that the more mainstream TVs don't tend to have.

Actual picture quality isn't any better than a good Sony though.

If money is no option and you aren't an apple/B&O looks above performance fanboy, the best CRT you can buy is a Sony Broadcast CRT Monitor. They are bulky, casing won't look that nice, but the picture is the best. Expect to pay a lot, if you can find one. :D

Not correct in my experience. B&O use bought CRT tubes yes, but the rest of the electronics is B&O. I have owned a lot of CRT's and there is a distinct difference in picture quality. I have the 21" as on the photo above and one big 32" beovision avant(turntable) upstairs.

Why is the picture quality so much better on the B&O then? Well, the B&O have next to no convergence even in the corners. Its very sharp. Also colors really stand out compared to other CRT's. Then they have better geometry. It seems like they are very carefully fine-tuned and have good electronics.

Speaking of the Avant, I've seen some become available recently but without remotes. Can a universal be set up with it? Obviously I wont be able to turn it, but general set up?

I'm working on my collection at the minute, will upload some picks of my recent buys soon.

and wrt the Universal Game Case - does Sonic & Knuckles fit? I'm unable to find a copy in mint (usually the card inlay is ripped to shreds) so that could be a compromise. They do look good for N64 games too.

Hi. I have tried a logitech universal but it does not work. So I believe not.
You can always turn it manually :)

You can pick up the Beo 4 remote for around £20 on eBay.

Was tempted to bid on a B&O Avant last night, but it was the one with the build in VCR and I'd prefer the DVD version or maybe even one of the smaller B&O TV sets.

The one I watched last night sold for £32, so you can get a decent TV for retro consoles on the very cheap.

Just biding my time for the right one.

Keep getting told that modern games are harder than the old ones. Pah!

Give teens a NES and a copy of Megaman and watch the little sods struggle. :D

And if you want a laugh, watch some of the videos of them playing horror games. ;)

Do you think the information is incorrect, or something else?

I'm speaking more about the collection tool than the forums, which I haven't checked out much to be honest.

I'm on there and use their database... its ok, like any database its only as good as the data within it. With it being maintain by the public; it can be messy; but it's a hell a lot better than some of the others I've seen.

Hey guys, I need some advice. I am looking at buying a US Sega Genesis 1 and Sega CD 1 from a guy. It don't come with PSU's. I was wondering if the PSU from a UK mega drive 1 will work on the Genesis? And also what PSU could I use with the Sega CD? as I might also have another Mega Drive Model 1 PSU.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Afaik the UK ones will be fine, as they convert the power source to 12V.
The console itself does not have a power transformer inside i.e. Big PS2 had just a simple power cable with no 'power brick' built into the cable.

The Sega CD just uses a Megadrive power supply.

Also isn't it stupid how the power bricks are so huge in the plug socket?!

Ever get the feeling your losing your touch?
Super Mario all stars turned up this week...I lost all my lives on world 1-1 of the original game.
