Retro console and games thread

can I just point out, the first post in this thread is nearly 10 years old. Pretty impressive!

Edit - weirdly, I was post number 3, my god I've been here 10 years

Those posts are now classed as 'retro'

It's awesome how long this thread has been going, I posted in the early days as well :).

Do you still collect retro games mic?

Bought a NES yesterday, but the coaxial barrel plug on the end is missing. So all I have is two wires.

Can I spice the wires with the end from a DC adapter that's the right fit for the console? Basically cut the end off a DC adapter and spice the remaining wires to the wires of the original NES adapter.

At the moment I'm using a 12V 2A DC adapter, which works. But I'd like to repair the original one if I can.

Any replies appreciated.

Help my Dreamcast won't work!

The fan doesn't spin up so the console turns off after a few seconds. Google suggests that it isnt straight forward to replace fans as they're bespoke to the Dreamcast :/ looks like I might be after a doner console :(

Picked this lot up a few weeks ago for £45.

Apparently it was working but he said he broke the AC adapter, so I took a punt since the games alone were worth more than £45, if they worked.

After a bit of Google research it seemed I could use a DC adapter that I had from an old portable HDD, so I gave that a try.

When I first turned it on I had flashing red light.

Took the console apart and cleaned the 72 pin connector and the motherboard connections. With a bit of wiggling I could occasionally get it to work. So ended up buying a new 72 pin connector, which seems to have done the trick. Although I have had to keep adjusting all the screws so the tension is just right on the sled and the top cover.

All in all well worth the risk and effort to get it working.

Drop me a message in my trust as I think I might have one in the attic with a dead laser that could be good for surgery :)

Never owned a NES, my first 8 bit console was a Master Sytem. Although a local arcade had a Super Mario Bros arcade machine that I played a lot. I will probably sell the console and most of the games. Just keep the two Mario games and get a top loader instead. The toaster ones are a bit of pain.

Any recommendations on where to get a 480p widescreen CRT? I just can't stand SD consoles on my HDTV :(.

I picked one up from someone local via Ebay for very cheap. Also look out for Sony PVM/BVM monitors - got one of those recently too and the difference is staggering when playing in full RGB...

Finally got round to sorting the loft out in our house and so decided to move stuff from the parents-in-law and take a few pics to help me list what I actualy have dotted around...

superb little collection otherwise :D :D

The stick has snapped luckily :p

Certainly not one I purchased so can only assume magically appeared along with the second N64 :D

A few fairly recent pickups, I got a very good condition copy of UMK 3 for the US SNES, A pristine like new boxed Super GameBoy 2 (I already had a loose cart but wanted a CIB) and Ghost Blade Limited Edition for the Sega Dreamcast
