Retro console and games thread

I got a few retro bits for xmas and I did also treat myself to one of these: A Japanese pure 60Hz HAA-2510 model 1 Sega Mega Drive :D It works a treat and scrubbed up really nicely!

Streets of Rage 2 / Bare Knuckle 2 looks gorgeous via RGB on my XRGB Mini!

How well do these upscaler units work?

Is the xrgb considered 'creme de la creme'

I wouldn't mind picking one up for my retro consoles if these units are good.

Right everyone

One.of the guys at work wants to buy an arcade cabinet / mame box

Anyone know of good companies who supply em?

Ta

If your after a flatpack cabinet, I recommend Arcadeworld, used them for my own cabinet.

Sorry, don't have a pic of the full cabinet to hand.

They are awesome, all my retro systems look really sharp and crisp on my LCD TV. You can essentially make the games look as sharp and clean as they look on emulators, coupled with scanlines games look really really nice. There is virtually no input lag either, I would highly recommend one!

I used to have a XRGB Mini for my Neo Geo AES/MVS, but for me it wasn't really worth the money, since my old Sony LCD seemed to do a good job for some reason and I seem to be in that small percentage of people who aren't mad about scanlines. :p

I sold it on in the end, but do kinda wish I kept it now that I've modded my Mega Drive and SNES with 60Hz switches, the TV doesn't like it, so I had to buy a HD converter.

The units were over £300 from Japan when I bought mine, so prices are coming down and they are packed with all kinds of options/settings which I had no idea how to use.
Great unit, but too expensive for my uses.

Even though I did enjoy playing this and having it up in the Box was pretty cool, my Reef Tank is calling for a Calcium reactor...... sad times means selling this up :(. Always liked how they made his Cheeks glow upon power up lol. Will be missed.

That looks brand new, should fetch a good price where ever you sell it :).

My N64 died on me back in the day and the only 1 I could get local was a Pokemon version, I would have been 18/19 at the time. Wasn't too happy so I did a swap with my lil cousin for his bog standard unit. :p

And good luck with the calcium reactor, gotta keeps those SPS' happy. :D

Thinking about buying a TV for my desk so I can play on my consoles while sitting at the computer. At the moment they're hooked up to my tele, but it's criminial how often I use them.

I know everyone says get a CRT, but my desk simply won't handle one.

I got my eye on a Samsung UE22H5000 22" at the moment, seems nice and has a SCART port, but a bit on the expensive side of things for such a small TV.
Open up to any suggestions if anyone knows a nice small TV.

Wouldn't a 14" screen fit? You can get some nice late 14" trinitron for next to nothing these days.

Went down to a shop to have a look at their 22" TV's, not much to select from, but found a cheap 1, but found out there's no kind of returns unless the thing is faulty, so I came away empty handed.

Didn't want to take a punt on a £100 TV that doesn't work for me, I have that problem with my current TV, doesn't like the SNES when I switch it to 60hz to play American games, goes slightly blurry, so I have to use a HDMI upscaller.

Is it a switched pal snes? They run at a strange frequency that is not exactly 60hz which causes this issues. You will find most modern sets will probably act the same as your current one.

Yeah it is, guess I need to get round to treating myself to a proper NTSC SNES. ;)
I do have it running through a HDMI convertor at the moment which works.
