Retro console and games thread

Nice find. Where are you finding all these bargains?

Mostly Gumtree and Shpock.

I probably check them both at least every couple of hours. There's a lot of dross, over priced rubbish and plenty of people who seem to lack any ability to communicate using the same device they listed the item with in the first place. I also have the advantage of working near Birmingham so collecting items on my way home is easy and makes my search radius quite large.

I was lucky with the stuff I bought from Telford. It was well worth the 70 mile round trip I did three times. It would be have been a forth trip but lost my number and sold approximately £400 (Ebay prices) of Mega CD games for £40. There was even a copy of Flink CD in the bundle.

When I first started I was paying Ebay prices to get what I wanted straight away. That becomes very expensive quickly. So I tried car boot sales, charity shops and second hand shops. But pickings were slim. So now I just bide my time and see what turns up. I hardly ever pick up anything close to home. It's always around work in Birmingham.

It has a lot to do with where you are. A 15 mile search on Gumtree for me just gets the bottom of Birmingham and there's definitely more stuff there. Unfortunately it's more like 40 miles than 15. :(

Anyone watch Classic Game Room on YouTube?

I stumbled across it about six months ago and I think it's great. If you're a forty something gamer, then I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

It was going to finish at the end of 2015 due to YouTube's ad revenue model not generating enough to fund the show. But after fans suggested Patreon as an alternative it looks like it will continue in the future and be bigger and better than before.

You are lucky, I live by Birmingham and work in the centre. Last time I got something was an Amiga 1200 for £50 two years ago. Now people are selking on Gumtree using eBay prices :(

There's a lot of overpriced stuff on Gumtree. As you say people look on eBay then try to sell for the same sort of price. That's why you have to look very regularly to get in first on the few items that go cheap.

You also get the the chancers that try to make out what they've got is super rare. I saw someone trying to sell Flashback for the SNES, cartridge only, for £250 the other day. I sent him a message asking what was so special about his cartridge that made it worth fifty times more than the going rate. Didn't get a reply.

Pulled this out the cupboard today. Not played on it for quite a while so cleaned the screen and connected the Famicom to it. I also bought some 2.1 speakers for it so no more PVM mono sound. I really need to add a shelf into it now so I can have the speakers a bit higher and the consoles on the bottom.
