Retro console and games thread

Looking for a Mega CD mark 1 myself and I definitely reckon I'll have to pay eBay price.

I've only seen one on Gumtree in the last 12 months and to have bought that I would've had to have spend £225 buying the Mega Drive and 32X he was selling with it. As much as I would've liked to own the full set, the 32X's software library doesn't have enough games I'd want to own. Plus they are another thing that would be eBay only and they are too expensive for me.

I've never seen one on Shpock that wasn't at least 100 miles away. Even those were too expensive.

I've had a couple of Mega CD mark 2's pass through my hands but sold them on as I prefer the original markl 1 to go with my mark 1 Mega Drive.

I have a megadrive mk2 but must say the original looks better to me! More retro! One came up for sale near me with a mega cd unit beneath it and some games for 170 but i dont really know the value of things just yet

Would love a dreamcast but only games i remember loving were sonic adventure 1 and 2!

May go get some shelves like these^ today!

Gnedby shelving unit from Ikea. They are perfect for storing games.

I've been looking at Mega CD 1's for a while but sort of get put off by the prices they seem to go for. I'll bite the bullet eventually

Try and look for the end of line trinitrons. They are usually silver in colour. 21" is a great size. Don't go for wega or wide sets as they add processing to 240p/480i images messing the look of the picture.

That was my old Trinitron. I use broadcast monitors now.

Hi cee-S-dee what is the converter cart you are using on your Famicom and can it play pal nes games or only ntsc? Also i wanted to pick your brain as to wether its ok to use a jaguar psu to power my Fami AV? Its the same polarity and amps but 9v instead of 10v. I decided to buy a replacement "knock off" one as the one i got with the megadrive model 1 i bought to use was buzzing loudly, mentioned this awhile back here, so i got one through console goods, via amazon for ease of use, which appears to be a legit jaguar one with "jaguar" and the atari symbol blacked out with marker pen.

There is a dreamcast for sale near me, its an auction on ebay with no bids yet but starting at £25

Comes with 2 light guns, house of the dead, a cobtroller and mem card. What would be a good price for this? May make an offer and see if they will just sell rather than auction

*just asked for better picture and its a bit yellow for my liking

Boxed, not yellowing and has daytona with it! That fetches around 30 + quid itself!

The cost of selling on eBay has gone up considerably over the years.

Fees used to be around 3-4% and they didn't apply to shipping costs.

So selling a £40 item with £10 postage and packing would cost around £1.50 in fees

Selling that same item now would cost £5 in fees because it's 10% of the total value of the sale including postage.

Add to that the fact that demand has risen as well and it all adds up to higher prices for everyone.

I've also notice some sellers massively over price some cheap, common games in the hope that some naïve buyer thinks it's rare and pays the BIN price. That then starts to drive up the price of all BIN of the same game. Or they do it to make their more expensive games look cheaper, while in fact they are more expensive than everyone else.

Check out this listing and his other items to see what I mean.

Wow, looking at his completed listings he sold a boxed 32X like mine for £250 last week. If it works then why not :D

I think most people are happy to pay a premium for a well presented BIN listings. There's still a lot of bargains to be had if you don't mind bidding.

This is the converter i use

It can play pal games due to the Fami AV having no lockout chip. You have to be mindful though some games were pal optimised so don't play at the correct speed on NTSC machines causing sped up gameplay and the sound plays at a different pitch. That's actually a PAL copy of CV playing in that picture.

Regarding the Jaguar PSU, yeah its fine to use. I actually use one myself along with a MK1 megadrive PSU and have no issues. Its a well built PSU.

Got a feeling I have burnt out my yearly gumtree luck already after this week

Fully boxed sega saturn official race wheel. Wheel still in original bags inside...... £10

Got a dreamcast on the way with a few racing games 2 controllers and a memory card. Bit excited. I will keep MSR but may sell daytona and ferrari challenge as they dont hold any nostalgia for me. Daytona seems to sell well and then i can pick up something more appealing

I always heard about shenmue, but to me it looks a bit odd? Is it a must play? Need to grab sonic games and some others

Also whats the best way of plugging several consoles up to a single tv so i can switch between them etc

Shenmue is amazing RPG game. lotsa money but a real gem :)

Btw just found someone on ebay selling new old stock of Amstrad GX4000's.....so tempted!
