Retro console and games thread

Not looking for it specifically, but I know I've seen eBay prices in the £50 and over range.

This arrived in the post today. Only £17.50 delivered.

I didn't realise that some games were released in slim CD cases. Annoyingly doesn't fit in with every other PlayStation game.

I love Einhander, one of the few good games made by Square which wasn't an RPG and way harder than R-Type Delta. Shame it never got a PAL release.

Im sure the one I had was in the standard PS case.

does anybody own one of them retro pi box? or a retro console that plays lots of karts.

we are low on space and have a mega drive, snes, n64, ps2, gamecube with loads of games ... Hardly play them so wondering if retro pi would suit better?

are they any good

oh sounds like you want that id like as well
not sure what its called, but it takes most carts in one console thing (name escapes me)

The Retron 5 plays most cartridges. But from what understand it rips the ROM from the cartridge and then you're playing an emulated version of the game. It's also worth noting that the Retron 5 isn't compatible with some of the flash cartridges currently available.

what about the retro pi.

the sad thing is i dont know why but it cant feel the same, different controlers etc and not actually having a console which is half the fun.

Do people here collect Gamecube games?

I've got some for sale, if there is any interest then I'll consider putting it on MM.
I've got some traders contacting me but I'd rather sell it to people who want the games

I'm after a few, one being the Gameboy Player and Pokemon XD. As these are silly prices at the mo on eBay.

I completely forgot I pre-ordered this back in July until I got an email from Amazon the other day, I'm so glad I did since it is sold out everywhere and scalpers are having a field day at the moment. Sadly Amazon didn't have the spare controllers up at the time so I will have to wait until they are re-stocked. Overall I'm very pleased, the only thing I dislike as others have said is that the controller cable is pathetically short hence why I have the console on the floor at the moment. I also would have preferred a cleaner scanline option instead of the crappy composite video CRT effect.

On the plus side the European version of this includes the USA ROMS so they are all played in 60Hz glory - Amazing Job Nintendo! (unlike the EU virtual console....)

sorry for sounding dumb then, is emulation ok?

Emulator discussions aren't allowed in the forum, since there's a potential for copyright infringement.

Emulation is ok in terms of the law, providing you own the original games to the ROM files you are using. The New NES Classic Mini is actually emulating the original system and games.

As far as game experience goes, it's very dependant on the system being emulated and the emulator itself. Some are very close to original hardware and others aren't.

Personally I don't have a problem with it, but you'll always the potential to get the best experience from original hardware.

But these new mini nes's are basically emulators in a shell right?

From what I understand, yes.

Apparently it's an ARM processor which is potentially capable of running up to and including N64 games.

So maybe we will see SNES and N64 mini classics.

It may also be possible to add more games via the USB port and some kind of web update. I don't see why they'd use a USB port just to supply power. I'm guessing USB requires a licence fee, so why include it if they didn't at least want the option to use it for data?

Bargain.

As for the Spectrum. I think the old school computers are the one thing I think I'd rather emulate. No loading times and not having to play with a keyboard.

I had a Texas Instruments TI994A in the mid 80's and it's the only system I don't have any nostalgia for.
