Retro console and games thread

It's lovely being able to play some of the classic Tony Hawks games in 720p

It's funny you should say that! I bought a 2nd hand xbox about 5 years ago just to play Tony Hawk 2x. The xbox cost me about £50 and the game about £25 imported from the states It was worth it though, It's the only xbox original game I still own :D

Hey I did my bit !

In my local game shop they have vandal hearts 2 they want 60 for it which seems fair.

Got intoncollecting xbox originals recently, it's quite good fun, a few hidden gems tucked away for pennies

You did indeed ;) I'm sure theres other gems in there you would like :p

Im still keeping an eye out for the Streetfighter releases on xbox, never seen them round here like.

Yeah I remember Vandal Hearts selling for a lot more than that, hell I even sold a US copy to an american dude at one point for more than that lol

FFVIII is certainly worth a bit.

Will do no probs, really need to get definitive list and pics together first though.

Yeah the original XBOX is great. You can pick up a console dirt cheap and games aren't expensive either, plus you can mod them really easily so you can copy games to the hard disk and can play classics from last gen in either 480 or 720p by buying a component cable. I have an American chipped Xbox and quite a few games, may have to dig it out and have a blast :)

Now I've seen it, it's just a matter of waiting till next pay day!

I actually reviewed your list the other day, tbh I only collect pal games and you have a lot of ntsc on there... sorry!

My xbox collection is getting a little out of hand, I must have bought about 30 titles in the past month or so.

Does any one have Steel Battalion ?

Not a console, but I thought I would post a picture of my retro pride and joy...

A4000.JPG

An Amiga 4000/030. Hiding inside is a WarpEngine 040 accelerator with 128MB of ram onboard. I've also installed a DVD-Rom since the photo was taken.

The best thing about it is that I picked it up off Freecycle some years ago for free :) It wasn't working at the time, but all it needed was for the kickstart chips to be reseated and it sprang into life :)

I've also got an Amiga A1200 with a Blizzard 030/50Mhz sat in the cupboard. I should get more use out of them really.

That's brilliant. I had an A500, A600 and i've still got my A1200. I think you need to make an episode of Babylon 5 now...

~Just won myself a dreamcast (as per my other thread) to go along side my ps2,ps3,wii and snes.

Dreamcast was the only console i didnt get when i was a kid so im quite happy :)

comes with sonic 1+2, virtual tennis and tony hawks . for the fun price of £20 :)

Whats an Amiga 4000 actually useful for now though. The problem they had was not that many games scaled that well at the time and apple stole their market
I hear Amigas in some shape are still made, some guy made a batch of PC in the shape of them also

Talking of Dreamcasts I'm a bit of a geek as I bought a US modem and an old US Robotics 56k modem so you can connect it to a PC and emulate a phone line to play games online. There are still Dreamcast Quake3 servers online and also Phantasy Star Online I think. Don't use it very often though.

So could you buy the Dreamcast modem and do it that way? Sounds like great fun btw. I'd love to try it.

My arcade cab is coming on well. All I have to do is source a J-pac so I can connect the pc to the jamma loom and im done. Will have pics and update next week I think if i can get one at a good price

Wouldn't you be better just plugging your dreamcast in? Sounds like great fun btw. I'd love to try it.

Probably but this way you can use your current broadband connection rather than having to pay for dialup. Yeah it's pretty good fun, although a mouse and keyboard is essential if you don't want to get spanked :p

I see, that makes sense. But does the modem still make all the right noises when dialling up?

Yeah. You need a US modem the UK ones are picky about there being a voltage on the line which you don't get when connecting two modems directly. The other modem at the PC end decodes and encodes information into 56k dialup sounds.

Also another plus point is that the US Dreamcast had a 56k modem whereas UK ones only had 33.6k modems.

I've got a Sega Megadrive II in full working order and loads of games stored away in a cupboard. This thread makes me want to get it out and start playing on it :D
