Retro console and games thread

Had the exact same model as a kid, felt so privileged because my uncle had a 48k and had to wire in a tape deck :D

.... watching their loading screens :P

I could go to sleep listening to those sounds, was like a geeky version of whale songs

The +2 was our first proper family computer, remember as kid going to get it brand new just after it came out from dixons or rumbelows I think it was

£200 odd quid!! In 1986.....gulp!

So what the pic tells me... In all the years between the speccy and the xbox... Microsoft could not make a smaller power brick than Sinclair could... So Sinclair must have been decades advanced or Microsoft are just pants; or yet to buy a company to show them how to integrate the dam things?

LOLOLOL when i opened the box at work we had a very similar conversation (technical department at a retail IT firm, so will leave you to imagine the level of "GEEK" involved ;))

You do make a good point though

What charity shop do you go to?!
All I can find around me are sports titles at stupid prices!
I'm tempted to raid the charity depo at work; I work for cancer research then leaving them cash at work.

Just ask eat what they have in the back and a **** load of luck. Often they have boxes of games!
Sadly most items on the shelf are crap such as Pro Evo 2008 or some Barbie PS2 POS.

Sadly most charity shops can't sell consoles due to PAT testing and THROW out that or given to scrap man, or would certainly eBay them off.

I find car boot sales a 10 minute panic as they open....I was 20 seconds too late to get Final Fantasy VIII and Resident Evil 2 for a quid each. Car boots are not relaxed fun!

Do it! Provided you donate a price you think the charity shop would ask for (In my experience 75% of charity shops are run by OAPs who don't even check eBay to base prices on!) then fair game in my view.

Yeah we have a corner that just grows and grows with donations in the break area, just tempted to do all my shopping there.. Lol. Scary thing is that it's filled by staff alone, I just might leave a sign on the wall asking them to speak to me, if there's video games.

Car boots ain't as fun as they used to be thou I did pickup Mario and dr Mario for the GB for a pound each the other week, I'm just dead picky in what I pickup.

The sad thing is that I've moved to Manchester (nearly a year now) and apart from the Cex, granger and that's entertainment stores.. I've one found one other retro game shop, called retro replay games.. Surely there's has to be more than one retro games store in the whole of Manchester?!

One advantage to spending the weekend moving furniture around in the lougue (which of course started with "what happens if we move this here....") is we now have a temporary seat upstairs for Retro fun.

The seat is actually our smaller TV cabinet (which was used for storage) with a blanket and cusions. :)

Doubles up as handy controller / cable storage as well.

We will be getting new sofas for downstairs in a couple of months so eventually this will be replaced with a nice big comfy sofa :D

Not really retro but we also puicked up House of the Dead 2 & 3 on the Wii. Damn I had forgotten how unforgiving the arcade games actually were. On the plus side I have found what the Wii is actually good for besides acting as a gamecube.

(Some might note the lack of the NES from my previous posts. It was struggling to read my copy of Mario thus I returned it). :(

Any of you guys got a spare md2 psu and Av cable kicking about I could borrow / steal

Won an untested md2 and mcd2 for £26! Just need to see if it works :) looks in.good nick and has pad and both manuals with it but no cables. I know the mcd2 uses the same power pack as md1 so sorted on that bit

Ta

Nice little setup, wish I had a room to set all my stuff up its all just thrown in a cupboard in boxes so if I want to play something and it's right at the bottom it's a right mission

Looks great! Love the layout. Its really crying out for a CRT though :D:D

This is my "Retro Corner" at the moment. Quite a few new systems since my last photo and a random 14" PVM just sitting there. The JVC produces a simply sublime picture in RGB. I would never sell it. Will keep it till it eventually dies.

And the famicom running in RGB

Thanks chaps.

A secondary CRT is on the cards for the future. The Dreamcast (my primary "retro" console will stay connected to this TV or a newer one to take advatage of VGA / VGA-HDMI.
