Retro console and games thread

Dug out my own MegaCD stuff last night... didn't even realise I had a duplicate game. :o

I don't know if any of them are any good, it might cause more spending on the bay though if people had forgotten them. :D

The actual sprite graphics were the same. The only advantages were it could do FMV sequences in very low resolution thumbnail sizes, and the audio was CD quality.

No, there were some expanded graphical hardware that was part of the Mega/Sega CD including faster CPU, more memory and an additional graphics chip. I remember this being touted when the machine was launched: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Genesis#Sega_CD

Examples of games using some of this additional power include Batman Returns, Thunderhawk and Jaguar XJ220.

£45 for Tomcat Alley! I will stop moaning about the prices of current gen games.

I finally swapped over my Mega CD v2 for the v1 today, will get some pics up later.

Some Atari ST games I used to play as a kid, they bring back some good memories. I had an Atari 520STE but its long gone unfortunately, I think we sold it at a car boot many many years ago.

Anarchy
Chuck Rock
Escape from the planet of the robot monsters
Flood
Golden Axe
Paradroid 90
Rainbow Islands
Rick Dangerous

Recently picked up a PS2 Slim to replay some of the good old PS2 and PS1 classics.

Pictures...

Flood - brings back memories. Underrated and little known gem of a game. Can remember the ending too which was a bit different.

Same, its my favourite game of all of them, played so many hours on that game. It was only recently when I looked at the box again I discovered the characters name is Quiffy. I never knew that.

The ending?:

He climbs out the sewer and gets run over by a car?

The ending?

Yep. Remember completing the game with a friend and watching the ending and we laughed as we saw it and just didn't expect it. Even though it was quite simply done, it was different and fitting the oddball nature of the game. I can't remember how but I knew the character's name (maybe from the C&VG review).

This game, Falcon, Silkworm, Sidewinder (average shoot'em up but was free on a magazine) and Projectyle dominated some of my early Amiga gaming memories.

Weird that I don't remember the differences being that much.

Anyway, got my collection out

(If not easily visible, the disk only game is Cobra Command).

I got most of the MegaCD stuff second hand with the MegaCDII. It came with Lethal enforcers and the light gun but this broke early on.

Also in the pic above, there is a Japanese game F1 Grand Prix. I think I only ever played this half a dozen times purely because the whole game is in Japanese, so navigating the menus to set options and to find what game type you are playing is impossible.
I guess with modern phone app translators, I may have a chance now.
Plus I have a Master System converter to play Putt and Putter.
