Retro console and games thread

So whats the best normal cable for a pal gc without breaking the bank

Looks like it's going to be an RGB scart cable, seems like a minefield in terms of quality on the third party ones with some of them not even true RGB or just badly shielded so you get picture and audio interference. Seems like the only way you can guarantee decent quality is the official nintendo ones which are sadly £45 minimum :(

Is it worth using one with a PAL GC? Can they output 480p?

Yes. PAL GC can do 480p. It's the games that are the problem, 480p switch (hold b on games that support) was changed to be the 60Hz switch on PAL copies.

Swiss can solve that problem though and force the games to 480p. Generally works fine as long as the game was designed with 480p in mind (so basically the games where the nstc one has 480p switch). Games that were not designed for it, can still be forced, but a mixed bag as to whether it causes problems.

Todays purchases :)

I didn't get a great deal on the N64 stuff but paid only £15 each for the Zeldas and the Pokemons. Twilight Princess is NTSC unfortunately but still a valuable game and came with the freeloader.

I think you could do worse than giving this one a try from retro gaming cables. I haven't got that one as i have an official one but both of my megadrive 1+2 rgb cables are by them and they are both pretty decent cables.

Excellent thanks for posting the link, I'll give this one a try as the price is certainly more palatable than the second hand Nintendo ones :)

Will buy one thanks guys! So do you all run these on a crt tv or do these cables make hdtv look good? Mine doesnt have scart so looking for crt anyway!

What n64 cable do i need?
