I looked and the wipers and lights are a £200 option on most new Insignias.
Was waiting for that. Nope I gave them some money for various options as at the end of the day I'll be driving it 50% of the time

Absolutely, being aware of road surfaces and driving accordingly is crucially important, both from a safety perspective and a fun perspective.
I've ripped the wee out of BMW drivers over-estimation of traction control before, but it's a bit sad hearing Fox say that he's not interested in something so fundamental to driving.

Because I believe good things come to those who wait. Since 18 I've been working over the summer and saving money away so I can buy a car in the future. I decided that having a car at university was pointless and when I'm at home I now have the choice between a MK5 1.4 Golf, an R56 Cooper, or an E93 330d. (Although the latter is 3rd party and I'll only be allowed to drive it about town lol) I thought that I might as well wait until I'm 21, where insurance quotes dive. Needless to say, it's getting to a point where I'd love to have my own car even though I have no need for one at university, so I may very well get one when I'm 21
Whilst I appreciate I am lucky to be driving these cars at my age, it's still nothing compared to having your own car and I respect that. Although you have to say, what's the point in shelling out for my own car when I presently have no need for one? The only possible reason is to show off to my uni friends that I have a nice car. Point?

I didn't even bring the car into question, I was just asking why he deemed it a good to spend money on extras on a car that he doesn't own.
When you live in London with stupidly high insurance premiums then you'll understand why I drive a "crappy" Fiesta. I'm getting really ****ed off with people who use what I drive to make a cheap point or make a snide comment.

I understand and appreciate your point. The difference is I don't need a car and have the opportunity to share cars with my family that don't belong to me. It's not really a stupid cheap dig mate. I work during the summer when home from university and I am extremely fortunate that my parents let me drive one of their cars. I have complete respect for the fact you need your own car. As I don't need my own one, I have decided to save the money I would have spent so I can have something more luxurious when I'm older
As for spending some money for extras on a car that they're buying. Why not? I'll be driving it a lot of the time, it's almost as if it's 50% mine. If I want to spend money on something I'll be driving then why not? I personally think the two touches to the Mini I listed above make the difference between it being another sheep and something that stands out.

Fair enough, I wasn't even saying it's a bad thing, all I was questioning was why you brought shiny mirrors for a car that isn't yours and then mjt has to get on his high horse and be a total wally and insult me for no reason.
What I drive is my own problem, I don't need people telling me what I drive is rubbish when I live in an area that if I brought anything more powerful than what I have the insurance companies will give me a proper fisting.

Mate ignore him. As I said I appreciate what you've said. Part of the reason I haven't bought my own car is because of insurance costs, if I were not so fortunate that my parents were to let me drive their cars then I'd be forced to buy something cheap and slow. As I said in my other post, good things come to those who wait and when you can afford to buy and insure something better and faster, it will feel much better than a car handed to you on a silver platen from your parents

As I'm sure you've established, it's not my car. I'm only 20. It's a treat and I will only be allowed to drive it into town and back. I have DOC on my policy. My dad would happily let me drive it if insurance companies didn't get in the way as he knows I'm not an idiot behind the wheel. I wouldn't even dream of putting my foot down as I honestly do not have the experience to handle a car of that performance.

I'm quite happy with the manual wipers on my new old car, and yes I've driven VW group cars with automatic wipers.
Mine has an analogue knob for the intermittent wipe speed so I can set and adjust it as necessary, though I can see why intermittent would be annoying if you only have 1-3 different intermittent wipe settings.
Overtaking a truck, just knock it down into fast wipe before the spray gets stupid and you'll have better visibility than if you wait for the auto wipe system to notice, knock it back up to intermittent to restore your previous setting.
Headlight assist, I agree with the people complaining that if you can see the other person's headlights directly then you've left it too late. Now that this system exists people are going to bloody well use it thinking they don't have to worry about dipping their headlights properly any more, so expect to be blinded more often by cocks in Audis and Mercs.

That's a sensible attitude that we share mate. I know people my age (19/20) who spend outrageous amounts on insurance which seems ridiculous. You could easily sell your car at 20 and upgrade to something nicer when you hit 21 or an older age and insurance does plummet when you're 21.

I'm 21 and my insurance did plummet! I paid £1400 for TPFT when I was 20 and then as soon as I hit 21 it went down to £560 TPFT - On a 12yr old 1.3 Escort! My renewal for my Fiesta is going to come in at about £500 this year and that's still only third party. My area is a total rip off

Id prefer that over heated seats myself.
